I have a ps3 with cfw 4.90 evilnat and im hoping to keep my data somehow? When i turn it on i get nothing. Only safe mode but i cant restore default setting update rebuild database or restore file system. If i do any of those it just does nothing but load. (spinning circle top right corner) Thanks in advance for all help!!

you can try to connect the drive to your pc if you have your eid root key dumped and backup your stuff that way. if you don't have the key and have a spare hdd you don't mind formatting use it to reinstall cfw, dump the root key, then try to backup the old drive

If you have the ERK you can plug the HDD to your PC (don't format it!) and use PS3 HDD Reader to salvage your data.

Sounds like the hdd is dying. You might try swapping out the HDD in order to get the erk, then using that with the old HDD on the PC. Most important thing imo is saved data. trophies and games can be redownloaded. If you have psn+, you can redownload saves, minus memory card saves, via cloud. After losing several saves on the switch due to hardware failure, I vowed never again, despite the high price of especially PSN+.

For me the saved data I can lose but all the games and custom retroarch stuff i can't afford to lose.

IF the drive isn't actually dead you can get all your data back, just when you connect to your PC do not let it initialize or format for any reason and use ps3 hdd reader with your root key and you are good to go, once the data is on your pc you can later transfer it via ftp to your console, then rebuild database and all your stuff will be back

@kadorna2 Even when Windows destroy PS3PT, user can still mount some vflash and user partitions. Via my toolkit. So it is not dead end either, just leveraging difficulty due to nature of pointing to correct addresses. Just FYI.

last time i did this there was no GUI, the program to read PS3 HDDs was command line only. maybe that's why you get nothing? try running the exe in the command prompt
