PS3 Cannot get external drive to read on ps3, what am I doing wrong?

Getting my ps3 to evilnat 4.92 was easy. Formatting internal drives for ps3 is easy. Formatting usb sticks for ps3 is easy. Getting my ps3 to read my external drives is impossible it seems.

I have 2 external drives, using one at a time. Both are 5TB, neither reads when I test them on the ps3. They're external, mechanical 2.5" seagate drives.

Drive A:
-MBR
-2048 MB NTFS Partition

Drive B:
-MBR
-1.5 GB NTFS Partition
-512 MB FAT32 Partition

Why am I having such a hard time getting these to read on my ps3?
