CFW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra (8.4) (CEX/DEX/PEX)

PS3 CFW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra (8.4) (CEX/DEX/PEX) -

Yes, he put that, but I don't know if it could be converted, that's why I wanted him to answer me and if he sends me the new version, I'll try it

Oh yes bro, well let's wait for the return of evilnat for him to bring news about version 4.89.3, anything he will be sending the noBT and noBD versions to the testers.

@Evilnat I'd like to test version 4.89.3 non-bd, and I'd like to know if I can convert to DEX on that version and if any other features of the full firmware don't work on non-bd. Thank you

@enzo071111 From 4.89 CEX you cannot convert to DEX, because the last CFW DEX firmware was 4.84. Everywhere firmware after 4.84 has been CEX only.

EvilNat 4.89.3 is a ported dex , it's hybrid 4.89 with 4.84 dex files.

So he'll need to install it first and he will be able to be on DEX, nat will release several option of his PEX firmware, noBD, noBT, PEX, D-PEX, Overclocked 600/750 and etc.

If I understood what is ported, what I wanted to know is if I install version 4.89.3 no-bd CEX will I be able to convert to DEX or a CFW no-bd won't convert? Thanks for your works

I have another request for my friend @Evilnat : Eeprom dumper.
disregard the name of the file. it works for all firmwares from 4.75 to 4.89. It dumps NVS from the following locations:
0x2F00
0x3000
0x48000
0x48800
0x48C00
0x48D00

which means it could be potentially useful for dumping never dumped qa tokens, flags, and other rarities in the ps3 test or retail protos.

Edit: if possible i'd like it done into separate files instead of a unique log file. 0x2F00.bin, 0x3000.bin, etc

Hi @Evilnat, first of all great work with the new firmware. We appreciate your hard work. I tried DMing you but looks I don't have the option. If you have some free time can you please DM me the PEX 4.89.3 link?

thank you so much!!

I just discovered that the PS4 "Gold" headphones (uses a usb dongle) pass audio from all PS1/2/3 games EXCEPT when running the game on the backwards compatible emulator, ps2_gxemu in my case. All the audio comes from the TV only.

Is it possible this could be addressed via firmware?
Of course $ony actually got it right for the ps2_netemu emulator...

I'm not a super expert so maybe someone will correct me but from what I know the answer is that it's impossible due to hardware limitations.
BC PS3 models actually have some PS2 hardware inside them, either full (A and B models) or partial (C and E models). Whenever you launch a PS2 title on a BC PS3 certain hardware peripherals, including the USB ports and the network interface, virtually detach from the main PS3 unit and attach to the PS2 subsystem, which allows you to use PS2 USB peripherals on games that support them. The reason your USB headphones don't work with PS2 games is because the USB ports are used exclusively by the internal PS2 hardware and therefore not available to the PS3 Game OS itself. That's also the reason why you can't play PS2 games directly from USB and have to copy them to the hard drive first (the hard drive is the only peripheral which is not reattached to the internal PS2 hardware, since the PS2 and PS3's HDD partition scheme is incompatible, which is the reason why it was not possible to play Final Fantasy XI on a BC PS3).
The only way for USB audio to work with PS2 games is if the game itself supports it - and I doubt there are any; the PS2 had no OS (it only had a BIOS), which means that games that wanted to use USB peripherals had to include their own USB stack. Not many PS2 games supported USB to begin with and even those that did only supported specific peripherals, usually the EyeToy or in some rare caes keyboard and mouse. I doubt any PS2 game included USB audio support.
The reason it works with ps2_netemu is that afaik ps2_netemu does not emulate USB and network, so they remain accessible to the Game OS. The down side is that PS2 games that support USB peripherals will not work properly, and those that rely on it will not play at all. Please note that Rebug Toolbox has a toggle that forces the use of ps2_netemu even on BC models. You can use that to have USB audio on PS2 games that run properly under the software emulator.

Coming back after a few years away from CFW on PS3. My last time with it was with Kmeaw 3.55. I have a CHECH2001B. If you want someone to test it (just as user) in this firmware, you can send me what is needed. Either way, waiting for the final release when you guys finishes it.

Also, thanks for all of you working hard on it.

@aldostools Does webMAN MOD always patches with or without noBD? I mean, when the PS3 is booting webMAN MOD checks webman_config->noBD and enable or disable patching it? Because I'm on my 4.89.3 noBD and when I try to install a package or trying to access my USB device the first minute the PS3 is booted it can't detect it, and if I shutdown the PS3 beeps three times with error. If I enable webMAN MOD noBD patch manually it works as always

Patching a noBD CFW with BD patches in LV1 at startup can cause issues as I can see, I will test it further

@Evilnat

This caught my attention DEX Options - PS3 Developer wiki (psdevwiki.com), see that it says BD/DVD playback are not supported on DEX, maybe ia this the reason for the missing Video Settings?

Also when you mess again enabling dex features on cex, can you please check if the check option can be enabled? also the impose fake space/show space info on impose screen

That was the case for DEX but mysis provided a solution for the scene,
it was added in later versions of Rebug REX

From rebug rex 4.84.2 changelog (last rex)
FEATURE – Full BD/DVD Playback support on both CEX/DEX mode
(BD/DVD movies can now be played on DEX mode, major thanks to mysis!)

Got It, so this was the original reason for the missing entry on DEX, glad team rebug and mysis figured out how to enable it.

Anything about SACD? It is not supported on DEX too

Nat when enabled it in DEX, lost the permanent debug settings option, I hope he managed to keep both settings

@Evilnat I'm running 4.89 is it possible my error "insert proper storage device" is coming from CFW or something else? I just updated to a new Kingston SSD and this error is random and can't be reproduced at will. If i restart the console 10 times it may happen 2 times then another restart after the message and all is back to normal, the drive is new and has been tested and no bad sectors found.
