PS3 CFW Game not starting and other issues...

Hi all, I'm new here but would like a bit of help please...

I recently bought a slim ps3 off ebay and decided to flash it.

It was supposed to be a straightforward procedure... Go to Bguervilles site, check everything is compatible, dump flash, save flash. Write new flash, everything good. Perfect!
Next step, install Rebug CFW 4.86... Here lies the first problem, I got stuck in an update loop. I spent ages reading this forum and trying various different things, nothing was working.
It turns out that my wifi module is dead, I already had a hunch this was the case but never realised it would cause the update to fail... Nice one Sony.

I downloaded Rebug noBT and flashed that, brilliant it works. I installed Managunz, Rebug toolbox and Modman. I copied over Assassins Creed Black Flag into the games folder. Started it up and... nothing. It returned to the XMB. So hit the second problem.

I have no idea why it doesn't start and I've searched long and hard for the answer. Are there any settings in rebug toolbox I can change that will make it start? And what the reason might be for it to do this?

What I tried was using Managunz to create an ISO from the game folder and that didn't work, I patched the EBOOT, resigned keys or something and that didn't work either.
I read that webMAN was better for loading games so installed that... Roll on problem number 3.

Whenever I go to enter webMAN setup nothing comes up on the browser page at all. I can't change any settings nor load a game. I always get "webmAN isn't ready" message. I also can't uninstall it as I get the same message. My thinking is that because I have the NoBT firmware that it's causing issues looking for drivers that aren't there perhaps.

On the Brewology page for webMAN it says it has support for CEX 4.86.1 with COBRA disabled, so I tried disabling COBRA and that just made the PS3 crash at next boot. I managed to get it back on and re-enabled COBRA.

Is there any way to either uninstall webMAN or get it to work?

Thanks for reading

You can manually uninstall webman mod, find more info here.

Goto PS3_GAME/USRDIR/ and create an empty folder named ASSASSIN_ISO and try launching it again. It should work. Also I don't know which tool managunz uses to create iso but i recommend you use irisman as it creates iso with higher compatibility.

you need cobra mode on for using iso IIRC.

(i dont know if this is your problem but) when you install webman pkg, it installs an installer. you have to goto that icon and run the installer once (hold L1 untill reboot for full webman). now there will be a new webman icon with menus behind it.

Inside managunz, when u see games, go into the settings of the game and change the setting directly run the game. See if that works for u.

Is this webMAN or webMAN MOD?

WebMAN MOD is more current and regularly updated by the developer, aldostools.

As for the folder game. Why did you rip as folder? ISO has much better compatibility. A good thing to do is to take a fresh rip from the disc using irisMAN, this homebrew rips your discs in the most compatible format.

Goto PS3_GAME/USRDIR/ and create an empty folder named ASSASSIN_ISO and try launching it again. It should work.
This :encouragement:
Either if you are trying to boot it in JB format (folders/files) or if you want to convert the game to ISO you need to create the folder ASSASSIN_ISO in all cases

Edit:
If for some reason you try to boot the game in JB format without the ASSASSIN_ISO folder... the game is going to generate automatically a gamesave that is wrong (valid to play, but malformed)
To check this take a look at the path where are stored the savegames, and you will realize the game generated several savegames, one named ASSASINS (this is not a correct folder name), and other using the TITLE_ID from other region (usually USA because it seems it takes USA as default)

Thanks for all the replies. ALl helpful information, I followed the link to manually uninstall webMAN (it was MOD @Fin9ersMcGee). I think I got all traces of that removed.
I also added the ASSASSIN_ISO folder to the locations specified but for me this still wouldn't allow it to start.
I installed Irisman and decided to load it from there just to see if anything would be different but alas... No.

I will rerip it into an ISO from within Irisman though as was pointed out. I'll do this for all further rips as well. Thanks for the advice.

However as of right now, I have it plugged in through ethernet and decided that I would update it on the off chance that might do something and lo and behold success! We have a loading game, it is installing now which is taking forever lol.

Thanks for the help!

Would any of you know the reason as to why updating it would allow it to load? I'm not sure how the EBOOT works but perhaps new entries in there or something?
