PS3 Changing the internal PS3 HDD to lesser volume SSD

Hello. I know there is alot of instructions and tutorials on a similair subject, but I just want to ask maybe anybody has some sort of shortcut
I have a jailbroken PS3 and an external HDD with games. I bought it years ago dirt cheap. I have a 240 GB SSD that is, basically, irrelevant to my PC. I wanted to change the internal PS3 HDD to this SSD for longevity (it is most likely 15+years old and was used before me unknown time). But, unfortunately, the internal PS3 HDD is larger in size than my SSD
I've read that PS3 file system is encrypted and has integrity checks in place. I use barely a half of the HDD. I tried to clone using bit-by-bit cloning method, knowing that the real allocated data will be transfer and hoped the PS3 itself will restore the ending sequence. I was wrong. The console rejected all the data. Thankfully, after a few restarts and power-off the old HDD is working again.
If someone has encountered a similair problem or has experience with the PS3 filesystem I'd appreciate if you can provide a, more or less, simple method how to "copy" the filesystem, data, firmware and adjust space size to the new limit. Thank you

SSDs does work, but it's not a guaranteed plug n play. In particular, many SATA SSDs may have buggy firmware that causes issues. Older SSDs are more prone to compatibility issues. If you're going to run an SSD, it's best to connect it to a PC first, and try to update the SSD firmware using the manufacturer's tools. Then connect it to the console and reformat the SSD to verify compatibility.

Your best bet for transfering your data is by using a file manager or FTP client to do a file transfer. You should have complete access to the file system through the console.

You can check how long console was in use by asking syscon. Eventually checking S.M.A.R.T report of that HDD on PC (i.n assumption that HDD was never changed of course).

Not possible, so not exist.
Besides that, firmware is not written on HDD.

BTW:

Thank you for your answers. I know, most likely, it's a waste of time but I've found some programs on the web that alow to decrypt\encrypt the HDD and I'll try to manually copy everything using the dumped PS3 key. I use like 80 GB of the internal HDD and the rest is just free space. Sadly, it seems I can't trim any image I can make of my HDD. If this doesn't work, I'd rather take a bullet to the head than try using linux one more time

BTW: Don't use "PS3 HDD Backuper" script from PS3HDH, it wasn't intensified tested. Copy data manually based on UserData Backup Guide.

Or, use Windows PS3 HDD Reader but it is available only in CLI (GUI made by @aldostools will not work with latest due to syntax changes) and have some quirks user must be aware of. Plus, do NOT agree for disk initializing or you will overwrite PS3PT by MBR/GPT.

If you are using Windows, and if you are want use Linux, and if you want write data on Windows partition been on Linux from PS3 HDD, remember to disable first the Hibernation and Fast Boot because Windows not writing changes to filesystem leaving it in clean state... It was made on purpose by MS to ppl which access C partition, breaking it...
