PS3 Checkout deank's new sLaunch feature in webMAN (& webMAN MOD)

@deank
Congratulations on the incredible work.

@Joonie
I'm using CFW rebug 4.81.2
Would you like to know where the boot_plugins.txt file is?
I wanted to test then sMAN deank

How to Install a Plugin:

Copy plugin_name.sprx to you internal ps3 hdd (ex: /dev_hdd0/).
Create or Edit boot_plugins.txt in the root of the hdd (/dev_hd00/boot_plugins.txt) and add a line for the new plugin. Assuming you placed the sprx also in the root of the disk, add: /dev_hdd0/plugin_name.sprx). Add a new line for each plugin.
Then Reboot PS3 Console!

Make sure you are using the latest versions of webMAN or sMAN. Just in case - re-download and test again.

@ex05: sLaunch is fixed now and won't show such distorted images when downscaling.

@self_slaughter: No, it won't support the old method because it defeats its purpose. You can always use just webMAN.

The good thing about sMAN is that it doesn't require large amounts of memory no matter how many games you have. It can handle 2000, 3000, 5000 games even.

sMAN is working a bit faster than sLaunch (at least it looks that way).

From now on it will be availabe at:

http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx

In few mins I'll add grouping of content in it, so it will be more useful.

Note: If you decide to use sman.sprx - remove webftp_server.sprx and slaunch.sprx from your boot_plugins.txt. It is not possible to use them at the same time.

sLaunch testing:

- I still notice a very slight distortion on the cover's right border; otherwise, downscaling is working perfectly fine (even if the downscaled pictures get smaller than the optimal 260x300 resolution).

sMAN testing:

(disabled wMM via rebug tools; removed slaunch.sprx and webftp_server.sprx from the boot_plugins.txt).

- Holding the start button to launch sMAN isn't working for me.
- The game booting really works faster now! I got a blackscreen and a console freeze when trying to launch games (had to use manual power on/off switch). This has happened to me before with wMM's latest version when "auto-start" option was checked on in the setup. With the option unchecked, games take maybe 1,5 extra seconds to boot but they still launch "automatically" and without any problems.

Update: some games do boot without any problems, while some freeze the console. sLaunch and wMM can launch both type of games without any problems (the problematic and non-problematic ones).

Hope this info can be useful in further developing sMAN in any way. Thanks!

Yes, fan-control is still there, because it is "webMAN" in the background. For languages - there is nothing different to webMAN - you'll have to compile it yourself with proper gui.h.

sman.sprx is updated - it now supports switching groups/content-type (ALL/PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP/VIDEO) - press the [SQUARE] button.

Tomorrow or later this week I'll add some fancy stuff (to display the current group, setup page and other things).

On the whole dynamic fan control thing is there any way to get normal SYSCON working again after unloading webman/sman now? Or how safe is it to leave webman running in the background when going online (in combination with psnpatch) to keep the dynamic fan control going while on PSN?

The fan on my console (CECHL) is pretty damn noisy and say going onto PSN to watch Stan with dynamic fan control on, then unloading webman will leave the fans running at a constant speed far too loud to watch TV quietly yet too low for say playing a game online on those 40'C + aussie summer days.

If the [start] button cannot activate sMAN then something is really wrong. Do you have other/many plugins running? I can't reproduce the black screen when launching games no matter what I do. I'm using Habib's 4.81cfw and all seems ok. There is nothing changed between sMAN and wM+sLaunch about mounting games. One thing that comes to mind is that in sMAN things happen a lot faster and it causes something that I can't see. If you can explain exactly what you do (mount/wait/start) I'll try to replicate it. Until I get no errors I can't fix them.

Naw, don't be like that. PS3 hooked up to a decent SD CRT TV via component cables is pure retro gaming bliss. :)

Newer consoles don't support SD TVs, so this is as good as it will get unfortunately.
If only retroarch got a little more loving... lol

Love ya work though. Top shelf effort.
thats what shaders are for! with retro arch shaders allow you to go crazy and get just about any look you want but on a modern tv. from a rounded (domed tv screen) crt... to the horizontal lines found in cabinet arcaded games.... shaders do it all. just google shaders for retroarch.... there are many premade ones or just make your own in the retro arch settings.

Finally was able to test it again!

Using: Rebug 4.81.2 CEX
Using: usb external HDD NTFS formatted with all games in *.iso format

(renamed sman.sprx to webftp_server.sprx and replaced the one on dev_blind/vsh/module; no wMM related files were deleted whatsoever; boot_plugins.txt is empty).

"Do you have other plugins running?"

- On my first try only wm_vsh_menu.sprx was listed in the boot_plugins.txt; On my second try, boot_plugins.txt was empty.

- I still can't activate sMAN holding the start button (and yes, it is working fine with games and/or sLaunch plugin).

- Since I can't start sMAN via holding start button I go to: "My Games" category in XMB -> select "Launch sMAN" option -> select one game that is freezing the console most of the times (PES2017 BLES version) -> sMAN closes with the fading effect -> game loads super fast booting the mounted game super fast -> external NTFS doesn't start blinking -> black screen and freeze -> holding the power off is useless -> have to power off using manual switch -> turn console on again -> check hdd for errors -> end.

So, whenever the external ntfs doesn't blink I already know what's going to happen :)

I guess this not a game specific problem because most of the games do boot without freezing even at this lightning-fast speed, and even those who do usually freeze, sometimes, very rarely, also do boot without problems. So I've tried booting Pes2017 10x times and 9x of those got me a freeze.

And that's it. I have no idea what I could be doing wrong.

Check with latest sman.sprx

Ok, we got ourselves our start button now working as it should! :)

Yet, Pes2017 still remains with the freezing tendency.

We'll get there, hopefully :)

Thanks so much Deank.

You have the button working because you had wM combos disabled before and this setting is now ignored.

Can you check your content refresh settings?

I'm using a ntfs HDD with ISO games and none freeze.

Using the debug stage2.bin would help find out what is the problem, and it is one specific to your configuration.

This is where my ignorance gets the best of me, at least for now, and I apologize for that. How can I check the refresh settings? is it a specific option in the sMAN's setup page?

Regarding the sMAN's setup page: I've already refreshed a couple times and saved the settings + reboot. Pretty much the default settings, never changed anything.

And I will definitely test out the use of a debug stage2.bin as long as I know what it means/how it is done.

I somehow sense you've nailed it, it has most probably have to do with my own configuration.

The same has happened to me before using wMM just as the user Turranius describes in this thread (maybe it has something to do with it): http://www.psx-place.com/threads/webman-mod-v1-45-00-new-features-web-commands-improvements-from-aldostools.11237/page-6

"Turranius: Back. Sorry for not replying earlier. I had to wait for the next PS3 =)
I've now tested the exact same way. Factory restored 4.80 OFW, downgraded to Rebug 4.80.1 blabla.

This time, I first turned off the PS3s built in "Disc Auto-Play" feature as I was testing to make sure the BD drive was OK.

I then did the same test with WebMAN MOD. Automatic closing of webbrowser and AutoPlay checked in WebMAN setup.
No problems this time. Strange I thought. It mounts it, closes the browser, waits a while until the game image shows up and starts fine. That is not how it behaved before. I did not get the game image before it launched into a black screen and I had to hold the power cycle it the hard way.

So then I thought about the built in "Disc Auto-Play" function that I've disabled. I enabled it again and got the same behavior with the black screen.

SO!
Confirm Browser Close = Disabled
Auto Play checked in WebMAN setup
System Settings / Disc Auto-Start = ON
And you just get the black screen.

Confirm Browser Close = Enabled
Auto Play checked in WebMAN setup
System Settings / Disc Auto-Start = ON
All OK. Starts fine."

UPDATE:

If I keep sMAN's setup page open while I launch the games' menu holding the start button, I'm able to load any game, wait 1 or 2 secs before closing sMAN's setup page, and then, when I run the mounted game from the XMB it always runs fine. I guess sMAN's loading is too fast for my ntfs. :)

Thanks for the help!

It is really weird, because I enabled the PS3 "Disc Auto Start" and games still load without any issues. Actually it seems that your PS3 is mounting the game really fast (under 4 seconds) and it causes the issue.

Can you test this version (only for you): http://deanbg.com/sman_ex05.sprx

Eternal gratefulness, Deank. It works! that extra second or so makes the whole difference. This is more like "sLaunch" speed, I guess. Still lightning-fast though :)

Thank for your time, patience and work. Really appreciate it.

I'll see if I can detect "disc auto start" option. @aldostools @bguerville @Joonie do you know if the setting can be obtained from the xregistry or some other place?

Yes master Deank, the setting can be obtained from the xregistry.

Check with xRegistry.sys Editor -0.75 - by stoker25:
If Disc Auto-Start - Off
/setting/system/discBootFirst
value 00000000

If Disc Auto-Start - On
/setting/system/discBootFirst
value 00000001

I was wondering about this specific option but wasn't sure. Later when I'm home I'll test it. Thank you! I guess it is as simple as:

xsetting_0AF1F161()->GetSystemDiscBootFirstEnabled(&discboot);

:)

It is now added to sman.sprx.
