Completely Confused

Bought this second hand from someone. He clamied it is jailbroken but there is no indication about it. There is no additional software like multiman, webman etc.. I never activated wi fi either..

Now my question is.. I bought this for my brother.. I planned to install dozens of games... But I am stuck.. I read lots of guides but confused...Is there any simple guide to jailbreak? I am not sure if my 4.81 is OFW or CFW.. Is lack of softwares like webman , multiman on xmb means OFW?? Please someone help me to get through this.
 
If You don't see "Package Manager" or "Install Packages" (in Game or Network category), You don't have CFW for sure. If You don't see "Activate HEN" (something like that, I'm not HEN user), then You don't have HEN. So You don't have hacked console at all... Maybe it is HAN (HEN ancestor, even more limited) but I know about it even less.

But until You install newest fw, You still have a chance to install CFW (Your model is compatible) and fw is in range for flasher (from 4.86 to latest, You will be out of luck, at least until bgtoolset back online again).

Tried 4.89 CFW Cobra.. Got Error, 8002F957. Then I find out I had to jailbreak first before installing CFW. Bguel toolset? Heard it is not avaible at the moment so I ended up in forums. Should I wait for him? I also read it is possible to install HFW twice then CFW.. But it gets more complicated as I research more into this. My brother (12yrs) frustrated by playing Pes2018 all day and I cant hold him anylonger. He wants to enjoy this console. :)

Hello again. Isnt flashing being applied through web page on PS3? How can being in 4.81 better than 4.86 if website is down anyway? I am new to this hacking scene so forgive my ignorance.

If I am correct please inform me. This is what I am going to do;
1- go to web search on ps3 and write ps3addict.github.com
2- dump ps3 data
3- save data to somewhere safe in case of brick
4- initialize patch through website and ps3 goes reboot
5- copy CFW (version?) to usb and install on ps3 through update system page
6- reboot

Anything wrong?

Find out if your model can install CFW
If it can then you can try the process in the video a few post above

If not then you can use the PS3HEN route,

What you have up there is a mix of PS3HEN and PS3CFW steps and no where close to a valid process.
So do not to that.

Sadly, yes. But all the alternatives of patching online methods closed and hosting them on my pc to use them seemed too much hassle. Let it be. Good things come to those who wait...
 
The only thing which was worth the effort is EID Root Key and some apps which needs LV1 access, and of course "autoboot". But it is not big deal anyway, HEN is currently quite powerful and enough for most users needs. Anyway, congratulation and enjoy Your hacked PS3. ^^
