Cpu hotter tha Rsx

New here, my PS3 slim 2051, CPU = 77°, RSX = 57°, ambient temperature of 29 degrees after 39 minutes of gaming in syscon. With Cfw tools the fan at 60-65% the temperature drops but it is very noisy.
What should I do to cut that big difference?

Have you changed the thermal paste (even under the ihs)? I suggest you the artic silver 5

Ihs Delid?, I never have. I do not want to do it. Will there be another way?

Well thats the way to reduce heat becuase thermal paste used by sony its just bad.

Changing it on top of ihs is generally a good idea, but (in the case of cell cpu) if the thermal paste under the ihs is bad than it has no so much sense.

Also before delidding cpu and rsx check if you can do it on your ps3 model (on later slim its not possible - you should check on psdevwiki).

I never saw 20 degrees of difference in temp between cpu and gpu on my slim 2004 so delidding at least the cpu its not a bad idea.

Also check if the fan is clean.

Also instead remeber to not multi-posting, instead of posting 2 reply you should edit the first reply

starting with the 2500 Series, the CELL/BE Die is soldered into the IHS

Ok then u wrote the wrong ps3 model in the first post (i was imaging that, because of how ps3 model designation is, thats why i told you to check on psdev wiki - last number is for region and we have no region 51 https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/SKU_Regioning).

The only things left are cleaning the console inside and put new premium thermal paste, there is nothing else to do, exept to replace the fan with a more efficient, and silent one (i dont know which fan to use as i am good with the official one - try to look here https://www.reddit.com/r/PS3/comments/82y5sy/ps3_slim_fan_noisy_which_replacement/ as this user has a 25xx model as you do - also relpacing the fan with a new one could reduce noise related to bearings).

Must be noticed that ps3 25xx uses 45 nm cell and 40 nm rsx while my model (20xx) uses 45nm cell and 65nm rsx https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/SKU_Models#PS3_Slim_.282000_series.29, so this could explain, at least partially, why there is such a difference in temps between cell cpu and rsx and why rsx is so cold compared to older ps3 slim models (less nm -> less power -> less heat. In fact 28nm rsx on later super slim could have been even colder, if sony didnt save money on the heatsink).

To reduce noise even more u could consider to replace the hdd with an ssd (dont expect performance improvements) as ssd are silent while hdd are noisy and produce vibrations; anyway the difference is barely notable

Why is thermal paste even a thing? I have never even heard the term before (or after) the PS3. Is the fan not sufficient enuogh?

if you have a slim than you are in luck, compared to ps3 fat user, because u will not have ylod problems and thats why u probably never heard of thermal paste.

anyway its a good pratice, almost mandatory, to replace the old and cheaper thermal paste used by sony to reduce temp (and so to reduce fan speed making the ps3 not sound like a space x engine).

if you have a 20xx or 21xx you can also delid cpu and gpu (by removing the ihs and changing the thermal paste even under the ihs) other than changing the thermal past on top of ihs.

If you dont know which paste to use, just use the use artic silver 5 (its expensive but more durable and more efficient than others like mx4).

Be careful when delidding

This is not something I will manually do, even though I have a fat model from 2008 I got in 2021. The temperatures thankfully do not get above 70c and if they did wMM helps to cool them down.

Although I don't have one, I have heard that laptop cooling pads can help both the PS3 and the 360. My mid-late 2008 360 (bought brand new) still works nearly flawless and has never had to be repaired. I must have got one of the first models where MS fixed the overheating issue. The only time it has showed the red blinking is when the power cord got knocked out abruptly by accident, and that was probably more than ten years ago.

I keep the PS3 propped on DVD cases on each of its sides to allow air underneath the middle. The 360 stands up. I try to keep both as cool as possible.
