Damage trying to delid PS3

I'm pretty confident with my tech skills but when delidding my CECHA01 I damaged the console.
The console will no longer turn on.
No problem as I have plenty of $$$ and I simply bought another. :)
What happens specifically when I try and turn it on is:
It comes up with a green light, then beeps twice and turns off.

I will probably see if I can repair the damage I did.

I have isolated the damage:

1. While trying to remove the IHS of the "Cell" CPU I bumped a NEC Tokin chip right above the CPU.
The chip moved and a bit of black plastic came off the chip.

2. I damaged the ribbon cable that connects the ON/OFF switch (on the front of the PS3) to the internals of the machine. It's a small ribbon cable that's about an inch in length.

I think I will need to replace the NEC Tokin chip and replace the ribbon cable.
Does anyone know where I can obtain these parts?
(I'm good with a soldering iron.)

Obviously you will need to find a local supplier if you don't reside in the UK.
Yes, that is the ribbon I require. I might order a few and contact the seller to see if they are willing to post to me in Australia.

"NEC tokin with four 6.3v 470uf tantalum capacitors"
I'll do some research into them.
Are there any guides around the place on how to solder them on?

If you have basic soldering skills you can do it. There are guides right here, just search NEC tokin replacement and you should find it.

Saying all this how on earth did you bump the tokin and damage the on/off ribbon cable??

See my guide below, I use a painters knife you can get from eBay, this was part of a set, cost about 5 pounds.

Sorry about the late reply.

Yes, I am handy with a soldering iron.

With the tokin capacitor, I was heating the internal heat spreader with a heat gun and the heat must have been on too high and/or too close to the capacitor and when I touched the capacitor it moved and crumbled under the slightest pressure. I'm guessing it was due to a combination of age of the device and the heat. Under normal circumstances I don't think a small bump would have caused that much damage.

In regards to the on/off ribbon cable. After I re-attached it, it started to slip out. Again, I guess it was due to age.

In regards to the painters knife, I was using a painters knife to do the job. I have all the proper tools.

By the way, in regards to the materials needed for a repair, I purchased this ribbon cable:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32951203896.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.21ef180291wq8f
I chose: Length 6CM 10PCS, Pitch 1.0mm, 10P, Forward Direction
I was unsure of the Pitch and the direction. Is 1mm pitch and forward direction what I require?

I also bought https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002043479667.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.17141802hr9HhX
I believe these are the correct replacement capacitors.

Good evening,

I'm unsure of the ESR on those caps however someone said it worked for there PS3 in one of the reviews so I'm guessing they are fine. ESR should be 9 or lower.

The honest answer to which type of cable you require is "I don't know" However if you send me a private message I can post one out to you. The reason it just falls out is that it should have a blue piece of plastic attached at the end which gives it a tighter fit, I'm guessing your missing this.

Hey thanks for the offer for the cable but I think I should be fine.
Although, if anyone else reads this I would still be interested in the details: Pitch and the direction

Yes, you are correct about the reason it's falling out; the blue bit fell off.
With your blue cable, are the blue bits on the same side of the cable?
This will give me the information about the direction.

Have you tried unclipping the ribbon from the power board and turning around the other way?

Well, the blue tab fell off. I don't see what turning it around the other way will do?
I have some new ribbon cables coming in the mail anyway.

I'm still interested to know: With your blue cable, are the blue bits on the same side of the cable?

I managed to answer this question myself by watching YouTube videos showing the cable in question.
Here's one vid that shows the cable briefly at the 6 min mark:

One note about that cable; it's best to leave the cable in the board and take out the end where the movable flap is. There's a 90% chance if the cable is taken out it will break otherwise.
I have worked on 2 CECHA01s and both times the cable broke.

For anyone reading this in the future:
I found the full specifications for the cable and it's:
PS3 FAT CECHA01 ON/OFF/EJECT RIBBON CABLE
AWM 20624 80C 60V VW-1
Length 350mm
A type connector
10 pin
.05mm Pitch

One issue I found is that I can only find it for sale online in length 30mm or 40mm.
If anyone knows where I can source a 35mm one please respond here.

Here's a link to one that comes in the length of 40mm: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002537555842.html

If I can't find a 35mm, 40mm will have to do.

No worries, the reason turning the ribbon cable around works is because the power board has a clip. This means it doesn't need the blue plastic to hold it in as the clip grips the ribbon without it. So if you turn the cable around you can use the end with the blue plastic to go into the PS3 Motherboard and the end without will clip into the power board.
