PS4 Data recovery

Hello,

I was looking for a way to recover screenshots and videos from an old PS4. A friend of mine recently asked me if I can get the data for them. I have not had any luck. It seems that PS4 does some sort of encryption. unfortunetly they only gave me the HDD and not the whole system because they took it to a "ubreakifix" shop who told them they were SOL... I can see the drive but cannot access it.

Does anyone know of a way to get this done? Are there any tools that can crack it.

You need hack console (so it must be fully functional), which means it must be on firmware 9.00 or lower (today, in future probably newer version will be hack too). After that, You will be able to dump EAP Key (via Linux Psitarch, or dedicated apps or payloads, eventually dumping sflash0 and getting out key from it on PC but not from all mother boards it is possible) and using this on PC (Linux or WSL2 on Windows): https://www.psx-place.com/resources/ps4-hdd-decryption-helper.1294/

Key is to long to bruteforce attempt so it is the only way. Data which You seeking lies on largest partition (no. 27 in GPT table), mounted under "${HOME}/ps4/storage/hdd/user/" using my toolkit.

I managed to replace the power supply on this PS4 with one from another that I had laying around. It boots now but I cant seem to get a display. Any ideas if there is a way to recover the data from this point? My friend has alot of photos and stuff saved on this console so she really wants to get at them. Seems like an issue with the mobo though and I think replacing that would cause me to not be able to access the drive anyways.. I might just have to tell her she is out of luck at this point.
 
Nothing has changed since post no. 4. ;] Besides that, if Your fw is 9.00, and in assumption that console is fully working except HDMI, it is almost impossible to do all the necessary steps to get the key totally blindly.
 
Hi! Im brand new here!
Im having a similar issue. A friends ps4 is stuck in safe mode loop and none of the safe mode options have helped fix it and they need to get the save data. Since the ps4 is stuck in safemode loop i cant use any of the tools to get the key.

I was wondering if i put in a different hard drive and got it running if there was a way i could use a usb to sata cable and try to get the data that way? Any other ideas woudl be great.
 
You need hack console to get the key. If console have fw version beyond public exploits (currently newer than 9.00), You need wait, God knows how long for another exploits.

If You will decrypt and read HDD on PC and retrieve saves, You will not be able to use those saves on another console and account because they are encrypted by another per console keys.

The saves would be used on the same console and account.
I have a jailbroken ps3 would i some how be able to use a homebrew app or something to view the ps4 hard drive?
 
Well heck. Is there any other tricks to get it out of the safemode loop besides just reinstalling? Maybe something out of the box like deleting one of the many partitions or something? Maybe a flash drive with some boot files on it to get it out of it or anything?

Another idea. What about using the ps4 emulator since it uses ps4 firmware? Like maybe find the 9.0 firmware jailbreak it and maybe it can see the usb? Would linux still have to be able to mount it before the emulator can see it?

Think out side the box by going back into the box thats in a box.

No. If You can deal with it only by reinstalling fw and needs retrieve data from HDD, then make disk image on PC. Then You can freely format HDD during the process of fw reinstallation as mandatory step. After that, hack it, dump key, retrieve data from disk image.

PS4 emulator not exist. All are API translators. Besides that, emulators (like eg. in PS3 case which also encrypting internal storage by unique key(s)) have not teleporting keys written in Your PS3 to emulator. :P

You are closed in a box with only one way out. ;]
 
Doing the disk image would be the way to go here but i don't have any free space for it. Its a 500 gb drive but i don't know how much space is on it.

There's no way out of the box...
 
If this HDD is 500GB size, disk image will also take 500GB size. Compression will not safe You because all partitions are encrypted.
