Data Transfer Utility with PS3HEN: Yes or No?

I have two PS3s, a slim and a super slim, both on 4.86 HFW with PS3HEN. I just upgraded both their hard drives with new 500GB drives, and it feels nice to be able to put more of my PS3 ISOs on them, along with emulators, videos, music, and comics.

Whenever I add something new to one PS3, I also have to add it to the other one. Why? Because I take the super slim places while I leave the slim snug at home, thus I'd like them both to have equal contents. It's bad enough that I have to install certain games, make new save files, and load and organize videos two times in a row, but what REALLY does it is the comics. Since there's no cbz reader for the PS3 (Why?), I have to unzip ALL my cbz files (I have a ton of them), re-arrange them by series to avoid clutter, and on top of that, copying them to the PS3 can take HOURS because the system keeps pausing every few pages! And then I have to do it all a second time on the other PS3!

That's why I'd like to use the Data Transfer Utility. I've used it before when my PS3s were unmodded, but is it safe to use the feature when I've got HFW and PS3HEN on both systems?

Isn't DTU transfer data to one console and after that delete everything on source console? ;)
No. That's what they want you to think. Like I said, I've used the DTU numerous times when my PS3s weren't modded, and every time I did, (almost) all the data from PS3 A was left intact. The only thing I had to do was remake any copy-protected save files.

Afaik some people used winrar to extract the cbr (or winzip for cbz archives) into a folder, copied the folder on fat32 usb key, went to XMB photo section, usb storage press triangle to display all & they were able to read the comic through the jpeg pics. And you should also be able to use the PS3 browser to view the extracted files.
If you try, tell us how it goes.

Alternatively there is the PS3 Media Server solution, it supports streaming cbr/cbz to the ps3 console iirc.

But yeah, generally speaking, it would be nice if someone could port an ebook reader to ps3, there is one on Vita for instable that should be portable.
Unfortunately there has been too few active ps3 devs for a long time.

That's exactly what I do. It's frickin' tedious, but it works.

But back on topic, is using DTU on PS3HEN PS3s safe or not?

Safe in what way? What are you afraid of exactly? A ban? A brick?
I don't see much potential for risks in using DTU but then again I don't use it, I haven't touched the thing in about 10 years.

But in any case, if ever you feel a bit paranoid & you want to be 100% sure not to take any risk whatsoever when doing something, you could always go back to OFW temporarily.

You enable HEN, use webMAN-MOD feature to clean the history files, reboot into recovery mode, install OFW 4.88 & do the DTU stuff & PSN related stuff like trophy syncing etc..
When you are done, reinstall HFW 4.88 from recovery mode then reinstall HEN.

Bans and bricks won't hurt me, I don't log in to PSN using those PS3s.

I'm just gonna Leroy Jenkins it. Going back to OFW (even temporarily) will most likely do more harm than good...

Why do you think that installing OFW could do more harm than good?
I don't think it would.
You are currently using HEN on 4.88?
If so, the console is running on HFW 4.88 which is basically OFW 4.88 with one sprx file (part of the browser) from OFW 4.82.
Installing OFW 4.88 would be exactly like reinstalling your current firmware, there would be no changes to the system except you would get rid of the HEN files, which can easily be reinstalled later.
But it's all up to you, I am merely providing information.
