Does a dead PRAM battery (or lack thereof) on CECHL04 cause issues of any kind -- specifically focusing on update issues -- or is it just an annoyance when the system forgets the time?
As I read about and experienced recently, on some PS3 models (slims in particular), it's possible that a dead PRAM battery causes some component to malfunction during system update, causing an error and throwing the device into an update loop when it's otherwise perfectly usable.
The reason I'm asking is that in this model, it's a little more tedious than in others to replace the battery (at least there's a holder...). Also, I don't care about losing access to digitally purchased titles as I don't anticipate connecting any single account to the device.
I may or may not do it either way, but everything else appears to work just fine, including wireless and Blu-ray drive, and it hasn't ever been opened before.
