DECR Owner: Can I contribute?

DECR

Forum Noob
Hi folks,

I own/use a DECR-1400A with REBUG. I noticed that the latest DECR versions of the OFW haven't been dumped & it looks like DECR support is stalling out. Is there a way for me to help capture the latest DECR FW for use in REBUG development (or at least for posterity)? It would be great if I can contribute to one of the few scenes that went out of their way for dev kit support.

Thanks!

Unless you also have access to devnet I don't believe it's possible to get access to the latest DECR firmwares.

Hello, I also nabbed a DECR unit, it seems the last mention of DECR specific firmware is REBUG LE 4.84? Will Evilnat support 4.9 for DECR units? or are we stuck with the older version?

edit; meant 4.84

There's no point really. The only changes made between 4.84 and 4.90 are updates to Blu-Ray keys, which is irrelevant to DECR because it never supported movies, and the removal of PSN account creation feature, which is also irrelevant because attempting to sign to PSN on a DECR or DECH unit without spoofing its IDPS will probably get you banned very quickly.

Obviously it would be nice if Evilnat ported all of his custom stuff to DECR. Maybe he'd do it - if you buy him one :)

sheesh I spent all my mula on this one lol but no worries, I primarily want to use linux on it. I initially droped to DECR 3.15 but then learned I could get access to RSX potentially by running linux in the REBUG CFW under hypervisor within gameOS

just wanted to check because I still want to keep physical disk playback capabilities. 3.15 keeps me from playing my newer discs

You could probably use OtherOS++ on Rebug 4.84 to install Linux but I wouldn't do this if I were you - these units are really expensive and it would be a shame if you bricked one.

Sure, but whats the worry? just make sure its DECR FW, NOR petiboot, and avoid deleting any GameOS files in linux?

I assume your console is DECR-1400 then? The DECR-1000 had NAND.
Again, this should work but as you know things don't always work as planned. Let's say there's a 1% chance of something bad happening like a blackout at the worst possible moment which leads to a brick - if you brick a regular PS3 you lose like ~$100. If you brick a DECR you lose about ten times that much and they're becoming more and more difficult to obtain even if you have the money to buy a new one.

If you still want to proceed I'd recommend you to use bgtoolset to dump your NOR before attempting anything. That way if something goes wrong you might be able to recover it with a hardware flasher.

Yes, DECR-1400A model

Im trying to do this currently. However, I get a "The page cannot be displayed. (80710a06)" cant access ps3toolset.com. know how to get around this? dont want to risk flashing like you said w/o a mem dump

same error trying to update time via internet. Ethernet is good

i understand i may need to upgrade to CFW to resolve this - im on 3.55 DECR OFW - apparently but ill have to do it w/o a mem dump

Update; 4.84 DECR Rebug LITE install success

https://archive.midnightchannel.net/SonyPS/Firmware/?cat=rebug

ps3toolset accessible via browser.

'4.84 version mismatch' msg in top right
unable to mem dump.
ps3toolset 'ps3 fw version vs vsh.self version: no match detected.' in log
cannot access system manager tab

I believe its saying DECR isnt compatible with ps3toolset?

cant update time via internet still
(80710a06)

Installed rebug pckg that came with CFW
enabled cobra (8.01) in rebug menu
enabled webman built in from rebug menu
dumped eid rootkey
dumped flash mem
(backed up via FTP server)

just need to partition and install petiboot

afaik, the Rebug DEH versions DO NOT include OtherOS features. though, since lv1 is same for all firmwares, you could make MFW with lv1 from REX/D-REX, but you also have to modify DEH toolbox, to be able to load OtherOS

I see, yes I was confused since I saw this video by Rene of T2 Linux.

https://www.youtube.com/live/f_mIsq6I344?si=0NeqTBfJdQD8SIf8

Edit; I clearly did not watch the entire video to the end in which he describes the changes to the RSX access vulnerability after 3.55 OtherOS++ CFW.

I assumed the process of and options to install OtherOS++ in this older version of DECR Rebug would be relatively the same and followed other similar method guides on this specific CFW version for cex/dex consoles to install red riddon.

I have not specifically looked to see if the other OtherOS++ options were even there will check soon.

Better try OtherOS++ on a regular PS3 first to have some prior experience. It could lower the chances of screwing things up.

youre right, will be fun in the meantime as it seems Rene and/or as provided by CFW devs have some special flavor of DECR CFW that has modified OtherOS++ support as haxxxen stated that I cant seems to find publicly available. Unless its actually on midnight channel repo and I'm overlooking it? Hopefully additional clarification; cant really proceed myself as Im still learning and not sure I could modify a CFW for DECR to adapt OtherOS++ support ATM

I indeed cant find any OtherOS++ features in any of the CFW options or in the Rebug menu of this 4.84 REBUG Lite DECR CFW.

But it does seemingly have the ability to store and mount PS3, PS2, PS1, PSP, and bluray/dvd titles at least; useful as decr unit is running significantly cooler than my turbine level cecha01 models

there is a 'initial guestOS loader' under LV1 patches within the rebug menu?

I actually caught Rene recently during one of his coding live streams on 1 of 2 of his YT channels and mentioned Linux on the DECR which he confirmed he had some modified CFW with OtherOS++ support

Q @ 22:00 mins
https://www.youtube.com/live/ls-uYlc7Xy4?si=6GuFoeYrxfyE4mCF

He responded saying its MFW and that he needed to get around to 'setting up a secure enclave' for the special CFW

so he had some modded fw to run his linux distro on a dev tool? interesting, and maybe worth a try.
a dev tool does not support OOS officially, so even the way of going down the road to 3.15 does not help here (repository nodes).

if I wasn't so lazy and lost I could make some tests, but then, I will only do it on my own 4.21 DEH CFW

"Excuse me, I have the same reference tool system, could you please tell me the steps to install the PS3 xploit and use a CFW? Since I'm on 4.75 and I'm getting the same mismatch error in the upper corner. Thank you."

There's no need for exploits on DECR and DECH since they have the QA flag set by default. Just downgrade your devkit to 3.55 then you can install Rebug without any exploit.

"And how do I do this? Any lower firmware is denied."
