PS3 Delidding: Tutorial with a mix of different ideas (easy, safe and fast!)

Hi. I see that here you exchange delidding methods.

I had delidded Slim 2504 previously, using 0.08mm LCD wire it went fine but was slow and exhausting process.

This time I got Slim 2004 and LCD wire wasn't really making any progress.
I had spent 2 hours trying, broke the wire multiple times and in the end I barely got one corner cut.

I've recently come across razor blade delidding video and thought I'll try it.
I had bought OLFA AK-5 knife and BIC Chrome Platinum razors, using wooden chopstick to push the razor during process.

Result - decent at least, I hope.
Interestingly, this unit silicone seemed clear-ish (I'm pretty sure the last time I delidded a PS3 it was darker gray)
The overall gap was very small to the point the 0.08mm LCD wire could enter one corner only.

The only razor blade damage was the entrance point, I couldn't slide it in at first. Maybe a bit of grease would help?

Here's the result picture. Please forgive the mess, I was so happy to not see damage I forgot to photo after cleaning.

Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna attempt my cpu this weekend with .08mm wire that I finally found. Rsx was easy. Looks like you may have damaged some of the traces. Did it function ok when you put it back together?

Yes, it works.

The "entrance" (middle right in the photo) seem to have no traces going there so it doesn't matter.
I covered the cuts to prevent oxidizing anyway.

Maybe if I used a bit of grease or succeed to slide in the razor first attempt it would have been flawless.

There might be tiny tiny scratch where I used LCD wire (bottom left in the photo) but it didn't touch any traces either.
Can't tell if it were done by the wire, or if the razor did it sliding on previously damaged silicone.

What I noticed is that razor blade gets it done way faster and using a lot less force, tho it's easier to make fatal mistake.

Are those Bic razors that you bought thin and flexible like the ones in the Youtube video?

Probably not as good as Wilkinson Sword razors, marketed as having triple coating including PTFE layer (Teflon).
Can't compare, I couldn't find them in stores so I chose BIC instead.

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this method and the youtube video link. I finally got it done using this method. I bought the OLFA AK-5 knife and BIC Chrome Platinum razors and followed the instructions on the video and it worked flawlessly. I struggled with this for quite some time trying different methods but it wasn't until your post that I finally got it to work. During game play my RSX temp went from 68 before delid to 61 after delid and cpu went from 62 to 55. Mine looks similar to yours with scratches at the entrance point but it plays fine. You mentioned that you covered the scratches to prevent oxidation. What did you use to cover it. Anyways, just wanted to say thanks.

I'm glad you did succeed too :) It was the first method I've seen that looks clean and doesn't involve custom made tools.
Clear nail polish will do, that's what I used. You might want to check a sample to confirm it's non-conductive first.
