DESR-5100 Thread

Heya, i recently just acquired a DESR-5100 PSX that i ordered all the way from Japan and need a step down transformer to use it since i live in the UK and its 230V over here compared to the 100V Japan uses. I've been looking for one and found some that i know will work but are a tad expensive for example the airlink transformers, but if needs be i'll get it.

Also, is the system usable without the remote that comes with it? I know it has PS2 controller ports on the back and was wondering if i could navigate the menus on it with a controller. Thanks!

EDIT: Also just wanted to say its nice to be back again, i've not been on the site for a while as i have been busy with irl things. But i'm back again haha.

UPDATE: The step down was too expensive for me to buy. So with some help i ended up power modding the internal power supply to accept 230v. Sorted.

Had a browse through the system and there's a lot of Japanese shows still on it. Watched some of them xD

Speaking of which, there is also XMB translation. But before You apply it, make sector by sector copy of HDD (it is encrypted so do not compress it).

Will do! Do you have any links for the translation files or where to look for them?

EDIT: Also, how would i create a sector by sector copy of the HDD?

Just another quick update, the power supply mod worked perfectly and can now accept uk voltages, as i said before. The transformer has been replaced with a brand new smaller one that delivers the 12V the system needs.

Also the disc drive as well as the HDD are all in working condition.

Plus it has some dope ass music visualizers. xD

UPDATE: I dumped what i could from my PSX including the firmware partition. Still cannot dump the __xcontents folder. Installed the Translation files, but i noticed not all of it is translated, for instance if a music file is playing, its still in Japanese.

Hello. I have just acquired one of these too and was wondering if you could help with the psu mod. I've already got a psu and was just wondering if you could please show me which prongs need 12v and which are ground?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

What do You mean by "firmware partition"?

"__xcontents" is not a folder, it is partition. ;) Ask @uyjulian as he have in plans to merge "xfrom:/" (internal flash) and "dev_hdd:/" ("__xdata" and "__xcontents") support with main wLE line. Maybe he would be glad for volunteer qa tester. ^^

If i remember correctly, the original psu inside the system should tell you which prongs are which. I know there are 2 12v and 2 ground pins. If not, i'll have to double check on that.

Hi! I recently bought two DESR (5100 and 7000), and I would like to know how to mod the power to use it with 230v. Do you have some pictures or maybe a link if you bought a new power board?

Thanks

The power board I used was literally a decently priced laptop charger that i bought from amazon, then got a friend of mine to do the rest since I am not fluent with electronics in terms of soldering, wiring, etc.

He simply dismantled the laptop charger i got down to the power board, stripped the old wires off it and soldered the output directly to the pins of the motherboard. 2 12v and 2 ground. Then he somehow wired the existing figure 8 power port already in the system directly to said new power board and voila.

Basically as far as the system is concerned, as long as it recieves it's 12V and ground. It doesn't matter what provides the power. You do have to make sure to get one that can also supply enough watts as well.

That is the exact one I used. Seems they're out of stock at the moment as this was back in 2021. But as long as its a psu with those specs, it'll work.
