PS3 DEX Research & Related DECH Questions

Which Console are you inquiring about?
DECH-2500A

Greetings,
I have recently acquired a genuine DECH-2500A with DEX 3.66 that was originally assigned to Trendy Entertainment, now Chromatic Games, the developers of Dungeon Defenders (NPUB-30251). It's incredible, the things I found on the system that were just sitting there. It's like if someone gave you a little puzzle box with forbidden knowledge hidden inside. I found 2 different Development emails ending in playstation dot-freakin-net. I found Trendy Entertainment company emails for at least 3 different developers whose LinkedIn accounts list TrendyEntertainment as prior employment. I am a bit surprised the console wasn't wiped before they got rid of the thing. Now that I have it, I understand the community is somewhat interested in researching the less-common firmwares. On an unrelated note, I think It would be really cool if I could reach out to these folks and interview them about how I now have their PS3 DevKit and what it was like at the time to be using this system while developing Dungeon Defenders.
Anyway, is there perhaps any interest in a flashdump of DEX 3.66 once I figure out how to do that? Moreover, I wanted to know, say I upgraded to the final DEX (4.84 according to PSDevWiki, AND assuming that PUP exists AND it would be worth doing in the first place) or an equivalent DEX CFW, but wanted to go back to DEX 3.66, is that at all possible while maintaining the data on the original and my new storage devices? I've seen around the web that firmware downgrading is indeed possible for DECH-2500 consoles; some say I'd need a CFW for it and others don't mention any prerequisites for downgrading.
The whole reason I got this DECH was for playing games with the debugging capabilities inherent to DEX. I'll need to figure out what to do with this thing while respecting the history of the unit and not screwing it up like I did when I upgraded the OFW on my CECH-3001A from 4.81 to 4.93, thinking "I want to sign into PSN on a real PS3 for the first time in my life, I'm sure I'll be able to downgrade later!" not researching beforehand that CECH-3000s aren't CFW or downgrader-compatible.
Thank you, and have a lovely Memorial Day for my fellow United-Staters.

you need to determine minver somehow. you may not be able to use cfw with that model...although you can upgrade it while keeping it ofw dex and use dec hen.

is there a date or date code on the sticker on bottom of console?

Yessir! I see a "Manufactured August 2010"
Do you reckon I could use BGToolset to determine with certainty, the MinVer?

it is cfw-comlatable! i believe the toolset can be used pn dex but you would need to update to newest dex ofw.

@esc0rtd3w can confirm...toolset can flash DEX ofw to cfw, correct? on dech model?

Now I'm curious! What specifically makes my DECH-2500A CFW-compatible as opposed to perhaps it being manufactured later on in 2010 or 2011? Do you know what Sony-baloney changed to make later versions incompatible?
You can use the 355.001d firmware which is made for downgrading. From there you can install the latest Evilnat fw.
Alright, just so I understand correctly as I'm still a little new to this, here are my possible avenues.
I can use Toolset but for DEX 4.81 and possibly flash CFW, and I definitely want to flashdump DEX 3.66 for research; it might still be useful.
I can use the 3.55-001d DEX-downgrader to get me some Evilnat D-PEX 4.93CFW. But afterward, can I downgrade back down to DEX 3.66 OFW, basically reset to before I bought the console, without issue?
I should probably install HEN on the DECH and do a ChkMinVer just in case as the DEX 3.66 OFW pup is still available and can revert from there if I don't like what I see.
Thanks for your help, gents! You're LEGENDS!

Sony changed the boot order for later consoles and your console is old enough to be not affected.

There's no Toolset for 3.66 so you won't be able to dump that. In order to use the Toolset you first need to upgrade to a later firmware.
We also already have DEX 3.66, so no need to dump it.

You can just use the downgrader to go to 3.55 (the latest "hackable" fw) and from there you can go to any fw.
As soon as you go over 3.55 with OFW and wan't to go e.g. 3.66, you first need to go to 3.55 again using the downgrader.

You don't need the toolset or HEN on hackable consoles, you can go to at least 3.55 no need for that.

I suggested Evilnat D-PEX 4.93 CFW as the target firmware because it is the latest and depending on your usecase probably the best choice.

The toolset does support DEX and writing custom coreOS, with strict mode off, but this has not really been tested beyond inital tests years ago. @bguerville would be able to explain better.
