I'm experimenting and trying to come up with a way to convert a disc-based game to an installable version, like CFW2OFW does, but in a way that works for games that have no updates.
I understand that you can just mount an ISO via wMM, but wMM does not show ICON0, PIC1, SND0, etc. as the files are inside the image (duh) and so it would need to mount the disc to begin with in order to do that. It looks better if those assets are available in the list like with installed games, and furthermore it would be nice if these titles could go alongside my installed PS2 Classics as those also have assets that make them stand out better in the Games column.
I also am aware of Webman-Classics-Maker, and it's a really neat tool which brings me very close to what I'm looking for, but it's just not as seamless as a normal installable title is. The way it works is by launching like any other app, then kicking back to the XMB, mounting the ISO, and launching that way. It slows the process down a bit, and I would rather just be able to launch it all in one go, as that's quicker and it would look much cleaner that way.
I feel like I'm on the right track here by reading about retail/NPDRM EBOOTs, trying to figure out how an NPDRM EBOOT is produced, and whether I can just generate one, but I'm also starting to worry that such a thing is just not possible.
Are there any better options? Could one be discovered with some more research, or am I wasting my time? I've been at it all day reading and discovering new tools in the process, but still can't seem to find a method that works the way I'm looking for. Any guidance would be appreciated, especially if it's just not doable because that would put my curiosity to bed and allow me to feel better about giving up on the hunt. Thank you!
