PS3 Discs not spinning in drive

Hi everyone, I recently got a lot of 3 PS3s from eBay, and one of them had a broken disc drive. You could hear stuff moving inside but it wouldn't suck in any discs. After opening it up, I saw that it looked like the drive was reassembled incorrectly, so I put everything back in place and got it to take in and eject discs. However, the discs still won't spin once inside the drive.

I've seen that a broken laser could cause discs to not spin, but I've also heard that with a broken laser, discs will start to spin but not continue. That could be misinformation, but I don't know how to check for sure if it's the laser or a mechanical issue.

It's a KEM-400AAA blu ray drive, from a CECHA01. However, I swapped the logic board on it with one from a CECHG01, so that I could see the A01 work. So, I know the logic board isn't the issue.

If anyone has any tips on how I can better determine the issue, that would be greatly appreciated. Like I said before, I'm mostly just not sure if it's a laser or mechanical issue, and I don't wanna buy a new laser just to find that that's not what's wrong, or buy a whole new drive when I could have just fixed the laser. Thanks.

If the disc isnt spinning its almost always a bad laser. Parts in the PS3 disc drives are fairly solid. Its rare for a disc motor or worm motor to go out unless somethings been dropped on the drive

Based on the cosmetic condition of the PS3 itself, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if something was dropped on the drive. But as far as I can tell when comparing it to my working drive, nothing looks broken, so I'll probably try replacing the laser next. Thanks for your reply.
