PS3HEN Do i have to install HFW twice ?

I am following mario's guide on youtube, he says that i have to install HFW twice before installing HEN...Is this true ?
 
As far as I'm aware, the only benefit of installing firmware twice is to populate both ROS0 and ROS1 regions of the flash information with the same hash data. However, it is by no means necessary to do so for installing CFW, let alone HEN.

By all means install it a second time if you wish (by the recovery menu if necessary) but there is no risk to your console by not doing so. Hope that makes sense :)

So once is enough for PS3HEN, can you confirm ? please answer yes or no since I am a bit obsessive ...

Also, If I do the following, will it count as once ?

(0) Copy the HFW file into usb_device/PS3/UPDATE/
(1) Take the HDD out of the console.
(2) Format it.
(3) Put the HDD back in.
(4) Insert the USB flash drive into the system.
(5) Hold the power button until it beeps twice.
(6) Choose System Update from the menu.
(7) System will be formatted and HFW will install
 
I think that the very first ps3xploit patch for installing CFW had an issue where it would sometimes show an error if both ROS areas were not updated. This is not an issue anymore with the PS3 toolset as it patches both ROS areas. Since the original ps3xploit people still say to install it twice in tutorials etc just to be extra safe and it can do no harm.

For HEN you definitely never need to install HFW twice and never did.

Here are the steps I recommend:

(0) Rename HFW file to PS3UPDAT.PUP and Copy into usb_device/PS3/UPDATE/
(1) Take the HDD out of the console.
(2) Format it.
(3) Put the HDD back in.
(4) Insert the USB flash drive into the system.
(5) Hold the power button until it beeps twice.
(6) Choose System Update from the menu.
(7) System will be formatted and HFW will install
(8) Install HEN.

Repeating these steps twice is not necessary. Taking out and formatting the HDD is completely unnecessary, unless there is a reason for it (softbrick, update loop or something).
 
yeah i only install hfw once. for cfw, i install twice if i downgrade to a lower fw version (just to be safe).

I am planning to jailbreak my Slim and install Ferrox 4.87 as soon as it comes out, Should I install the CFW once or twice ?

If you're on OFW 4.86 or lower, you can use https://** ** www.ps3xploit.net > ... by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com from your PS3 browser.
If you're on OFW 4.87, you must wait until the ps3toolset is updated to support 4.87.

The ps3toolset only needs the CFW installed once due it patches ROS0 and ROS1. Read DeViL303's post #4 above.

You don't have to wait for Ferrox 4.87. Evilnat's CFW 4.87.2 is as good as Ferrox.
