PS3-HW Does my PS3 have a faulty laser or a faulty daughterboard?

Hi guys, I bought a PS3 with a non-working Blu-ray drive, a CECHKO4 model, because I wanted to try to fix it. So I bought another PS3, model CECHL04, (still had the warranty seal) with YLOD (non-backward compatible) to use its Blu-ray drive as a replacement. I replaced it using the logic board from the PS3 with the non-working drive, but despite this, the PS3 still won't read discs. Now I'm wondering if it's a problem with the logic board of the PS3 that's working, or if I'm just unlucky and the PS3 I bought with YLOD also has a non-working drive. Yet the disc spins inside the console and doesn't stop and start like it usually does when it has a faulty lens. The PS3 picks up and spins discs but It doesnt ready them i doesn't even give me an error there is just a spinning icon on the XMB that stops shortly After.
I can't figure out if it's the lens that are broken or the original daughterboard
Before anyone asks YES i did replace the new drive's daughterboard with the original One from the CECHK04.
Can you help me?
 
maybe the daughterboard is dead? install no-bd cfw and remarry bd drive using the YLOD complete replacement, including daughterboard, guides to both things can be found in the forums

EDIT: you don't need to remarry to launch hdd apps while using ofw, just a working bd daughterboard. so if you can't even launch anything installed on the hdd from xmb because black screen you know the daughterboard isn't working. this may also suggest damage to the flex and/or connectors if this doesn't work with 2 different daughterboards, or a motherboard problem of some kind
 
The problem Is that the BD drive from the YLOD PS3 gas a 24 PIN connector but my PS3 has a 60 PIN so i can't swap the daughterboard
So if the daughterboard Is dead It won't even let me launch any installed games from the main menu?

@kadorna2 the fact Is that i can't test It because the Logic board from the YLOD PS3 has a 24 PIN connector and my PS3 has a 60 pin

@kadorna2 the fact Is that I'm trying to repair the BD drive because i don't have a digital game library when i bought the PS3 It had cobra ferrox installed and when i removed the BD drive the console booted to the XMB (as far as i know without BD drive It doesn't even boot in the XMB)
So i assumed that the PS3 had a nobd patch so i intalled the official firmware and the PS3 still Boots without BD drive and i don't want to make errors and waste even more Money so i don't know what to buy a new daughterboard to remarry or a new BD drive lens

I'm leaning towards a new daughterboard because i've heard that if the disk spins It means that the lens are fine.
I also checked the ribbon cables and they're fine

this is incorrect. the console boots but fails to update if the daughterboard is dead or disconnected, it also fails to launch apps and games from xmb directly to black screen, this is a sign the bd system isn't working

If you try to update to OFW without or with a broken bd board you will get an update error and end up in an update loop, requiring either a functioning bd board or a hardware flasher to get it out
 
@kadorna2 so to verify you theory i tried to install the OFW without the BD drive installed and It gives me the "checking... please wait" infintely so that's what you meant for update loop? I tried reinstallinf the same version btw

Nope, you should get error 0x8002F14E, restart the console, and then try to update again. Rinse and repeat.

You just f*ck3d yourself over by attempting to install OFW. Your console will not get out of the update loop unless you get a working bd board or you use a hardware flasher
 
@kadorna2 i actually did update the console to remove the cfw and It worked so i tried this to confirm my theory so it's definitely somthinf with the lens or the slide what should i buy Just the lens or the slide?

Alright, if you did get to update that means your daughterboard is working.

If you think it's a lens problem, remember the PS3 has 3 laser diodes, 1 blue laser for bluray, 1 infrared laser for CD and 1 red laser for DVD. If you can't get ANY of these types of media to read it could be:
1) lens/lasers burned out (AKA you need a new lens pickup)
2) one of the 2 motors in the carriage, the disc spinner and the lens mover, aren't working
3) you MAY have a faulty limit switch

Now, if you get to read even one of those of 3 media types, it's just the laser. You might get some disks to read by adjusting the potentiometers in the lenses to adjust the laser diode power level. Don't overdo it or you WILL burn out the diodes. It's tedious and time consuming but you might get a couple of months of life out of a near dead lens IF the laser allows it (aka, needs adjustment and there's some wiggle room to bring up/down the power). Note this is not always possible and possibly a good deal of wasted time.

Can i ask what's the limiter switch?
The PS3 picks up discs and the light turns on so i think that It recognizes the disk Is inserted?
The PS3 doesn't read nothing not even dvd's but Is there any way to test if the problem are the lens or the slide motors?
The disk spins i verified by removing the BD drive cover so 1 out of 2 motors can't be so how can i test the other one?
 
one is for spinning the disc and the other one to move the lens up and dont the carriage. if the disc spins, that motor is fine, leave it alone

the other motor and the limit switch can be tested by simply moving the lens all the way back to the outside of the disc, turn the console on and see if the lens go back to the parking position. this will both check the motor (if the lens doesn't move it's either stuck or dead) and the limit switch, it's a switch that gets pushed when the lens is moved towards the center of the disc, it tells the console it's on the beginning of the disc. if the lens moves to the initial position and it keeps on going trying to move the lens, the limit switch isn't working
