PS2 Does Soul Calibur II Work On SCPH-90XXX Models?

I know that some PS2 games are not compatible with later models PS2s, and I do have a SCPH-90001 with mechapwn. I am master disc patching Soul Calibur II USA, and after the save dialog the namco logo appears and the game locks up. It's not a disc read issue, and I don't think it's a master disc patch issue either. PCSX2 at least boots the patched disc image just fine past the logo and it runs correctly. I'm pretty sure this is just another game not compatible with the later slims. Can anyone verify this? Does Soul Calibur II USA work on your slim PS2?

I do not have a SCPH-9XXXX model...
And I only tested a PAL version (SLES_517.99) with OPL 2077 on:

• SCPH-50004
• SCPH-70004
• SCPH-75004 (DECKARD)

Everything works.
I mean the game boots and it is playable.

FDVDBoot won't work because it's not compatible with ESR. OPL or master disc + mechapwn is preferred.

On which console revision did you make that test?

Update: It works fine. I burned another DVD-R (this time at 1x speed, can't remember if I did that before with the original burn) and it's working. Possibly was either a single defective DVD-R disc in the spindle or the burn speed. Apologize for posting this.

Alas, I am curious about the reported PS2 games that are not compatible with some later slims and will investigate those further at some point.
