PS2 Drop in fan replacement for FAT 33k-R

Hey,

So I was looking for a fan to replace in my PS2 as the noise is unbearable, having an SSD helps a bit, but still it's really loud.

I've seen people doing noctua mods, but I couldn't see any file to print in a 3d printer to fit one, buying 40$ premade kit is overkill IMO.

Printing such a bracket and then buying the noctua fan is an option I can do, but I couldn't find any source files to print it, if anybody finds one then this might be worth considering.

On the other hand I've found this fan - Gembird D6015SM-3

I can get it for around 2$, 4$ with shipping and spec-wise it does seem to be a good option.

I saw a post here by @marcvz but I'm not sure if that means that it has made PS2 FAT very quiet with network adapter or not really.

The original fan in my PS2 is Nidec D06R EX 07SS102, but other than voltage and dimensions, I couldn't get much info about dB's or RPMs, so I can't compare it well.

Connectors are non-issue here as I can solder and I don't mind using previous PS2 fan to get the connector, but cutting into the PS2 original plastics is a no-no for me.

Any ideas if this gembird fan will actually be an upgrade or is there something else other than noctua out there worth considering?

EDIT: Knowing that this Nidec fan is a server fan, I suppose noise was not something that was considered when designing this fan, so I think the Gembird fan would actually be a good replacement, as 12V will compensate for any underpowered airflow, but I might be wrong here and gembird could be much louder than stock PS2 fan.

EDIT2: I've seen developments here and I do have a USB TTL/JTAG/RS232, so another option would be that I would just reduce the fan speed by software, instead of replacing the fan, but I'm not sure how realistic it is in practice.

a v9/v10 (50000 model) fan will fit without modifications. they are pretty quiet, though will still hear it if using a hdd

I've heard that, but I could not find a specific model of this fan to purchase and I'm wondering if that Gembird one will be quieter or not.

The only things people write is v9/v10 fan, but googling that won't provide me with a specific model number, so even if I really wanted to, I can't really buy it :(

So I bought the gembird fan and those are my results in terms of sounds in dB:
ambient - 30dB (2 PCs running nearby)

Original FAN - justStarted -52 dB
Original FAN - fullyLoadedOSDSYS-60db

Will edit once the new fan is installed with sound levels after installing the fan, any moment now.

EDIT:
Welp, the new fan I connected doesn't spin at all, possibly because I messed up the soldering as I have bad surroundings to do it ATM. I'll post here again once I get somebody more experienced with soldering to assess the situation I got here, as currently the fan isn't spinning at all. :/

EDIT2:
My initial attempt to see how the fan would spin did in fact trip the fuse. We replaced the fuse with 1A one as that was at hand, 0.7A is original it's not a problem.

The Gembird fan does in fact work great for quieting down the PS2 FAT. It's basically silent now, the thing is it has about 1/10th CFM of the Nidec fan, so it will definitely cool worse.

Having said that, I already had PS2 in a place where it has perfect airflow and convection works really well. So far I've been playing midnight club 3 dub remix, also online for like an hour and no issues so far.

Is there any way I could check the temparatures by software?

IIRC if the PS2 FAT will overheat, then it will force shutdown with blinking red light, so as long as I don't get that, it should be good.

EDIT3:
I have been playing very intensive games for like 4-5hours, also multiplayer and so far it's been amazing. I finally don't have to turn up the volume because the console is so loud! :)
I hope it's also going to work well in the summer, but so far I love it, almost silent.

EDIT4:
Some early 50k models
and
All pre 50k models

Actually have no heat measurements for sure.
They might have other security measures, but it's not known for sure yet.
Thanks to @El_isra for letting me know about this important fact.
