PS3 dualshock 3 randomly pressing buttons

so i just bought a ps3 which came with 2 dualshock 3. the seller didnt include any micro usb cable so i used one from my drawing tablet. i plugged one into the ps3 and it randomly started pressing buttons.

the 2nd one i tried plugging into my pc with the dshidmini driver using the exact same cable and it worked just fine, but when its plugged into the ps3 the same random button presses happened again.

did i accidentally fry both of the controllers or is there a soft fix i can do?

This is a hardware problem but not that hard.
The pad under the ribbon cable, which pushes it to the circuit board, has gone thin over time. This is a common problem with both DS3s and DS4s.
To fix this you need to tear the controller down, remove the pad and add something flat ( cut a transparent sheet) under the pad where it sits and of course clean the contacts with some cotton and alcohol. Then, reassemble the controller.
Be aware that it might be tricky for you to reassemble the controller if you are doing it for the first time, so try not to break or lose something.
Good luck.

I was thinking the same, but @wocktavious mentioned that connected the controllers to a PC and those worked fine (which would mean it's not a hardware issue).

does it also happen when using the controllers wirelessly or only when the wire is plugged in?

i have seen a similar issue fixed by changing the battery. there were random button presses wirelessly but not when using a wire.

it does that both plugged in and wireless but turns out it was the foam piece in the controller. i guess it came loose during the transport. i replaced it and it's working fine now.

Just curious, how did you repair it?, did you take the foam from another controller?, or maybe bought it somewhere?.

I have a controller with the same issue, although the foam "seems" to be intact (but I lose nothing replacing it).

i brought it to a friend who replaced it with some melamine cleaning foam
