PS2 ESR does not boot games

I was able to successfully update the DVD drive, but even so, I still get "DVD Player is not set up.". Sigh.
Why is it that it can read the exploit disc just fine but not burnt disc games??

MechaPWN caused that problem to me on a 75004. But in your case I really don't know what the issue can be. Probably a HW/SW fault.
I remember first time my little cousin got his first Ps2 (i think it was in 2007) it shows up a similar message (I'm pretty sure it was exactly your same one) when inserting a game. So he had it replaced by the vendor (it was a brand new console).

So very oddly, turning the diagnosis on, that error is now gone, but now it just kicks back to the DVD menu whenever I try to launch it. I have a feeling it's the type of brand dvd I'm using. Even tested the exploit disc using verbatim and I got "error reading disc" But when I searched and found my other exploit disc that was Maxwell, it booted just fine.
