PS2 ESR works on FMCB 1.8 but not FMCB 1.966

I need help trying to figure this one out.

I've formatted a memory card and installed Freemcboot 1.966 on to it. For whatever reason, I cannot get ESR (r9b, or r10f) to work. However, ESR works just perfectly on Freemcboot 1.8 on the same memory card.

What happens is that when I place an ESR patched DVD disc the PS2 will go in an endless loop of the OSDSYS going to a black screen as if it's going to start the disc but then will loop back to the OSDSYS then go black screen again into an endless loop.

I've went into Freemcboot configuration and set the correct ESR path and still no luck.

Please help! thank you

Just tried it and it didn't work.
Same issue:
-Insert ESR disc game
-OSDSYS disappears...screen goes black as if it's booting the game
-nothing happens
-OSDSYS appears again for a second...screen goes black...
and this loops forever

ESR is set to correct path and everything so I dont get it.

I can't figure this out for the life of me because Freemcboot 1.8-ESR works flawlessly

... is there some file or configuration that needs to be fixed or changed for installation? Multi install? Mechapwn'd console have anything to do with it?

In simple words ESR acts as a fake DVD-Video player, so yes, it does.
Especially if you enabled Force Unlock.

What is Force Unlock?

Force-Unlock is a feature for homebrew applications, like Neo Geo emulation, PS2 Linux for reading CD and DVD-ROM discs. What it's meant to do is unlock the disk drive for access.
⚠️ Important note: If you enable Force Unlock every CD and DVD will be detected as a PS2 disc, meaning it breaks PS1 games and DVD-Video**

But why ESR plays discs on FMCB 1.8, while on FMCB 1.966 it cannot, that is a good question.

I don't use force unlock. I dont think it's worth losing the PS2's 2 other biggest strengths--- play ps1 games and watch dvd movies. Also I read somewhere it's irreversible if you don't have the original restore file...or maybe reverting back to CEX SCPHXXXX might fix it but I never tried using force unlock so I don't knw

I'm not sure why normal ESR versions doesn't work for me on fmcb 1.9666 but this standalone ESR Launcher linked earlier works like a charm

As for the regular ESR's... Doesn't matter if I use a different memory card. I tried different installers of 1.966 and still....regular ESR doesn't boot up.

side note ---- it's weird because ESR will work the first time after i installed freemcboot but after I restart the console, it doesn't work at all and the ESR paths are set in settings.

The problem is--- ESR (doesn't matter which version) will not run for me on fmcb 1.9xx. It runs like a dream on fmcb1.8 however.

Oddly is that right after fresh fmcb install ... ESR will detect discs and run , however after I unplug the system completely and turn it back on , ESR all of a sudden stops working. When trying to boot game , it goes on this infinite loop of a black screen, then OSDSYS will appear for a split second then black screen then on and on and on....

If i manually start ESR and put disc in...it will read the disc then it will say "cannot boot disc" without explanation.

Every app and elf file in the fmcb settings are set to the correct paths.

This is a mystery to me and it keeps happening no matter how many memory cards and consoles.

Where do people download there fmcb1.9 from? I've tried gbatemp, psxplace, github.

Could it be something during installation that's causing this?

my system;
no mod chip installed
scph 50001 (mechapwned to dtl-h50001) (no force unlock)
picfix installed
oem memory card

I think i figured it out.....
ESR on FMCB 1.9X doesn't boot properly on generic memory cards. I bought "SONY OEM" reproduction (these look legit) memory cards from ebay and all of them have this issue with ESR. As soon as I use a legitimate Sony OEM memory card ...boom! ESR runs perfectly.

What's interesting is that ESR has no issues booting properly with FMCB 1.8 on these generic memory cards. So obviously the coding has changed from 1.8 to 1.9 with ESR ....seems like a downgrade to me.
