Today, I made a new discovery on launching games from external optical disc drive via SMB from USB mini router. First of all, it really works but there's one caveat - You will need a specific external optical disc drive that have USB flash drive emulation or ability to act the external ODD as USB flash drive (usually called TV compatibility mode) like this particular LiteON external ODD model as shown on pictures below. Meanwhile, the ISO file of PS2 game disc need to be converted into multiple pieces via USBUtil app then burned into a blank DVD disc.
To activate the USB flash drive functionality on the external ODD, eject the disc tray and hold the eject button for few seconds until green LED appears and insert it back and then the USB flash drive mode is activated only for accessing files from the disc. The external ODD and the mini USB router which connected together, should use power supply from power bank or wall adapter which have at least 5V 2.0A. USB power source from PS2 USB ports cannot be used because these ports didn't supply enough current to power these devices which connected together. Heck, I can't even use PS2 USB ports to powering external ODD alone for OPL USB flash drive functionality.
Although it is bit slower than running from USB flash drive itself, at least it can run games from the optical disc drive. But this method is likely tedious because every time you want to start up the SMB, you have to eject the tray, hold the button and put it back and wait a little bit longer to initialize the external ODD as USB flash drive.
