PS3 Failed to dump act.dat and idps.hex

Below are my steps:

1. Bought a brand new 16 gb usb 3.0 key. It is FAT32 coming out of the box. So I guess I don't need to re-format it

2. Made sure my PS3 super slim is 4.82.

3. Created a new account in PS3. Switched to the new account, then created a new PSN account. Signed into the new PSN account via proxy.

4. Installed Han from browser and Han toolbox from usb key.

5. Restarted PS3, signed in PSN account, then used Han Enabler from the Han toolbox. When it was done, there was a message asking if I wanted to quit browser. I chose Yes. I guess PS3 was in Han environment successfully. Any other method I can check if PS3 is in Han environment?

6. Opened PS3 browser, and navigated to exploit website. Chose 'HAN ACT/IDPS Dumper'.

7. Tried a few times until 'HAN ACT/IDPS Dumper initialized successfully'.

but when I click on Dump ACT.DAT & IDPS, it fails with the message
"File dumping failed!!
Error dumping file)(s):
/dev_usb000/act.dat
/dev_usb000/idps.hex"

8. Made sure the usb key was in the far right port (close to BD). Then re-tried 7 several times without any success.

I'm wondering if I did anything wrong?

I have never tried the HAN dumper, but I have used the old 2.0 IDPS dumper a lot, and the 1.0 as well (to amass my collection of private CID's) and this issue should be similar. In my experience, the websites fail quite often due to the large amount of requests being sent through them. Try launching the dumper locally using miniweb or a similar ftp program and see what happens, in my experience it should work every time. I once had my IDPS dumper fail 12 times in a row when using the IDPS dumper at redthetrainer.com, then I tried with miniweb. Worked like a charm every single time.

Did you try my solution? Do you still need help? If your problem is solved it would help us a lot if you would say so in the title of your post, it would save everyone some time.

Btw is your USB on FAT32? Did you clear history, cookies, cache and authentication information and set your homepage to blank after bookmarking the link you would be using in step 6 and before restarting in step 5? Sometimes there just isn't enough space in your cache to run the exploit. It helps ALOT to open the browser in a blank page and go straight to the exploit page with a cleared cache when using this type of web browser exploit via a bookmark or typing the URL manually. But it could still be an overloaded server, so if all else fails try it locally via ftp. I can help you with that if you want.

When bookmarking make sure you bookmark the HAN/IDPS Dumper page, NOT the page where you choose your exploit. Don't expect it to work well or even at all if you skip any of these steps. Sony made the cache very small as one of their safeguards against this type of exploit, so the cache MUST be cleared first. Each website you visit will add more data to the cache. Loading the webpage won't help you at all if you don't have enough room in the cache to FULLY load the exploit.

There I think that should cover pretty much every possible cause for this to fail, except a dead USB port of course, or a dead USB. If all else fails, try another USB, and make sure it's formatted in FAT32.
