PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

Always around that PCI port on all. If dump is good, by looking at it what do you think is broken? Would rsx need reball or exchange?

Codes 1601 interleaved with 1701 are a bit vague. I had these codes with my PS3 20GB, but it was caused by corrupted homebrew, so merely reinstalling all apps fixed problem with YLOD completely. On the other hand I recall that some time ago some people also had these issues, but it was most likely caused by dying RSX.

One of those pads is Tx and must see log in putty on pc if you solder rx from uart adaptor. Log start with power of unit. You have boot on syscon uart so that should work with sb uart as well. I never seen sb dead on ps3 unless special case or thunder strike.
Edit, I'll come back later today with right pinout.
I found in my shelf the first Frankie without modchip but I have that very first error on it 2f20 something like that.
I also need to reball another rsx (harvest it at the moment I couldn't install fw).

as a result, there are errors indicating a malfunction of the RSX, but I'm not sure about this

from heating, the textolite on the board swelled in some places, even under the bridge ((
this may be the cause of the malfunction.
now it remains either to change the RSX again or to remove this nasty old Japanese from the eyes
 
How likely is that 20 GB PS3 CECHB00 going to get fixed by just replacing Nec Tokins? The only codes that makes me a little worried are theses 3034's...

Seems the previous owner at first were having issues to turn off this PS3 A0901001, then issues to leave it on (A0801001 and A0801002 - Tokins on Cell/RSX respectively failing?) and issues to turn it on at last (A0061002), so I don't trully know if I should be worried about those A0403034s, perhaps the BGA failed while PS3 was on (A0801601 and A0801701)? I'm not sure...

Looks like it had RSX issue and they tried (and failed) to replace the tokins. If you 1st fix the RSX_VDDC you'll likely be met with a false positive followed by YLOD from BGA/Bump defects.

Hello rip-felix, thanks for the help, I was already following the tutorial and always had the same result, I redid the soldering a few times thinking that was the problem... but the truth is that it was some kind of incompatibility with the python version that I was using (3.11.14), so I uninstalled it and used version 2.7.18 and it worked perfectly so here's the tip if anyone has this same problem...

The incompatibility was patched. From your log, it looked like you were using a old version. That version of the script was incompatible with later python versions. My tutorial tells you to download the latest script from DBs github.

BTW I've seen that errorlog twice before. It's pretty rare to see 503037/501802, since it usually progresses from 1701/1601 --> 3034, but sometimes teeters in between. It may also have something to do with the specific part of the RSX that failed. It working in your case depends on what the work history is. I didn't catch your explanation.

Was it opened or sealed? Did it have flux residue? Drop damage? Lots of dust...other potentially relevent info.

If the RSX was replaced, that would explain why it works. A reflow would too. Pretty much any heat, or pressure changes in the area could cause it to appear to be working. At least temporarily. Such is the nature of thromechanical failures.

So, unfortunately I don't have much information about it because I found it in an electronics disposal store, when I turned it on, ylod, then opened it (it wasn't sealed) and I found that someone had already installed tantalum capacitors next to the nec/tokin but that's all without other signs or damage so out of curiosity I reflowed it very quickly and simply and it came back to life for 5 days, enough to unlock it and test some games that ran without problems (ps1, ps2 and ps3) so when I had the idea to access his error log through the ps3 advanced tools it crashed and didn't turn on anymore (I really regretted not having had this idea before because it took me a lot of work to access it through the uart) so today I did the basic reflow again and it turned on again so I just used it o got the error log by the tool and saved it... maybe it's a good candidate to switch from rsx? sorry for the long story and any mistakes as I'm translating all of this from Portuguese
 
Hi, I've got a PS3 CECHL03 that has been jailbroken with version 4.90 evilnat has been delidded and repasted and i always run it with a agressive fan curve. However i'm experiencing YLOD when trying to emulate PS2 games. PS1 games and PS3 games work fine. The SYSCON ERRLOG is showing an error code "2124" which upon my research indicates an AV/HDMI encoder issue. How likely is it that replacing the encoders will fix this problem?.Can this issue be a software issue possibly or am i being stupid and missing something as video output works and the system is stable on PS1, PS3 games and Bluray video.

I've already tried turning off upscaling and setting the fans to 100% when attempting emulation, but it hasn't made a difference.

Your console will need a replacment RSX. May be a good frankie candidate. If you didn't see any flux residue, missing components, bubbling/popcorning layers, and otherwise confirmed operation from the heat test, then it should work well.

Note, a heat test will revive the console temporarily. Long enough to retrieve saves and dump the Flash backup (required. Just make this a habbit). While you're in the system managment tab of bgtoolst you should also record the usage time and errorlog (it's been added there).

DO NOT JAILBREAK IN THIS STATE. it can brick. If you have a hardware flasher you can recover with that backup, but it's a serious gamble. The only reason to risk it is to update from a system version that's too low to install a 65 or 40nm RSX. You'll get an RSX rom abort and have to hardware flash anyway. Or install a 90nm just to update and then frankie (adds unnecessary rework cycles. Not reccomended). So in that specific case, it's worth the risk.

When I've seen genuine HDMI Transmitter isues the 2024/2124 (or Mullion equivelent 2020/2120) tend to come in bunches or pairs. Your timestamps indicate they do. The L model "should" have a 65nm RSX and not suffer RSX issues that tend to throw those errors in association with the characteristic 1701/1601 and 3034/4xxx. The only hitch in that is your region got screwed by SONY and they put DIA-001(with defective 90nm RSX) boards in M models, which everywhere else had VER-001 (with fixed 65nm RSX). I don't think this affecrs the L03 tho.

My point is that a 65nm RSX is reliable and the processors are golden. You really only see tokins, HDMI transmitters, power supplies, bluray drives fail, the normal host of random fuses and SMDs that blow out from a power surge or ESD. Or physical damage from a drop, in which case BGA faults enter the equation.

Note that the DVE (AV controller) or HDMI can cause 2024/2124. So start root causing the HDMI circuit (SMD network around it, diode mode the pins, and replace as necessary). If that doesn't work, then do the same for the DVE.

That may be more work than it's worth to fix, depending on your motivation (resale, sentimental value, just for fun or the technical challenge...etc). Sounds like you just want to play games. If that's the case, it may be wiser, to buy a working console and sell this for repairs.

Ive got a VER-001 so i should be alright with the RSX fingers crossed. I've got a multimeter so ill have a look around the av/hdmi area i dont mind getting little involved with surface mount stuff if its anything further than that i might just sell as is or finally get a junk full BC and swap the RSX as my mate has some rework equiptment and is more expreinced in that than me. Hopefully its a diode or fuse like you said though.
 
man if I told you that I already installed a cfw on it (evilnat 4.90) on the second day that it came back to work the first time? I confess that I didn't think for a moment about the possibility of him dying in the middle of the process... I was excited! but everything went well and I have a safe flash backup! This week I bought a ps3 slim 3011 that doesn't have the wifi module, I don't know why, so it shows the error 8002f1f9 and it's in an infinite loop when installing the system... I'll access its error log this afternoon and post it here to evaluate its history, it is equipped with an rsx CXD5301A1GB... I believe that this version can be used without problems to replace the CXD2971DGB of the A00

I've found a some SMD componets that are showing as open circuit. Both in the AV and HDMI area, highlighted as red and one in orange as it wasnt fully open but was pretty much there at 0.22 and my meter was buzzing. What are the best steps to take now. Am i able to source off the shelf components for replacements at all. I assume this may be difficult as there is no datasheet for this motherboard. Is my only option to source them off a donor board?
