PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

My tip is to analyze the 12v line or check the fuse on the line.
My CECHA00 has an error 3004, pin 22 has 12v, but pin 7 has 0v. Pins 5 and 11 have 900mv.
 
Hi everyone, could anyone help me identify which part of the PS3 needs replacement?

Before pressing the power button, the power indicator shows a solid red light.

After pressing the power button, the light changes from red to green with one beep, followed by a yellow light.

It then switches to a blinking red light with three beeps.

Hi people! I was able to get the codes. Could you help me with this?

PS3 super slim cech 4xxx turns on for about 30 seconds, then something like an ambulance/siren/alarm sound appears, then shuts off.

For what I have seen through the ps3 dev wiki, seems to be either a power supply problem or a problem with the line through which the power supplies current goes.

I tested the same psu with which I'm getting this error with another motherboard (that is same model, PQX-001), and I can use ps3 completely fine. Is it safe to assume then that the problem is in the motherboard?

If it its, then is it some kindo of beautiful tutorial on yt explaining how to measure the componentes of the said line?

I did the test after changing power cable (the one that goes to the wall) and now I get A0801200, a problem related with cpu overheating... I'm guessing that this happened because... I don't know. I of course don't have the fan connected, so could be because of that. That problem should be solved when I change thermal paste and connect the fan. But why didn't I get the error in the first try?

When I changed the power cable (the one that goes into the wall), I kind of pressed the psu against the motherboard (just to ensure) and I think I heard some kind of click...

Could it be, maybe, that the problem was that psu was incorrectly connected? Seems madness to me, but it could be that that was the problem, and now it gives me the heat error because the system is trying to start normally but there is no fun connected. Could it be that?

Plug the fan back in, make sure your cells don't overheat, they heat up very quickly, if you see an overheat message this means the system has 12v power and booted successfully.

This looks like a firmware issue.

Experienced people have answered this question. The cause 5FFF may be dead cell or rsx, but you should first check the firmware. They may be damaged or when you appling patch. You need a hardware flasher to restore it.
 
5FFF is often caused by a BGA defect or dead CELL in sherwood models. The CPU overheat errors (1200) leading up to the 5FFF implicates the cell. It may have needed delided and if someone tried and failed they might have scratched traces causing that. Or the added pressure under the cell with a thermal pad causing the die to crack or BGA to break.

I'm not certain why people thing firmware issues with this code. I did read a few reports of it on ps3devwiki where they said that error was displayed in diag mode after a brick, but most reports I've heard with that has been the CPU.

victor has answered this question before. He said that soft bricks can be checked by tristate test, but actually I don't know because I also told Lichi that it might be cell death.Glad you answered Felix

I see. A BGA defect would happen when the little balls under the chips are not correctly soldered to the motherboard, right? Maybe the heat error code was an intermediate state between them little balls kind of making ok contact and finally not making contact at all.

But anyways, I'll have to give up on this. Even if I could do a reballing (assuming that that would fix the problem, which could not be the case), there would be still an error in the motherboard 12v power line. There are hundreds of components on that line. I'm not even sure what that trace looks like or how far it goes, and I'm pretty sure there isn't a tutorial out there detailing every component of that line and the correct voltage and ohms it should be giving/receiving. It's sad because this was my ps3. But it is what it is.

Hey!

I have this 4001c super slim that was given to me broken. When i first powered it on, i got video output, but it was all garbled up. Any time after that, the console beeps, green light comes on for like 5-10 seconds, and then turns off. Ive never had it output any sort of video since.

I poked around the board to see if any fuses were blown, but they were all fine from what i could tell. Also visually went over the board, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary besides it being fairly dirty.

PS3 dev wiki says the 3034 is "rsx core power failure". Im wondering what steps i should take next, should i poke around the rsx and see if i can find any shorted caps? Or is this most likely a cooked rsx?

That was kinda my guess since it was artificing real bad when it turned on the first time. but maybe ill poke around the board a bit more and test some stuff blindly before i write it off as needing a reball. Another reason for me to get a bga machine lol
