Game Title working on PCSX2 but not on PS3

I have been building my PS2 emulated games library and am trying to add one of my absolute favorite games S.L.A.I - Steel Lance Arena International in the same way I installed the others. I have PS3Hen installed on my PS3 Super Slim and I build them on my laptop using PS2ClassicsGUI and FTP them (using multiMan) over to my PS3 and then install the package from the XMB menu there. I noticed in the compatibility list that S.L.A.I is missing completely, it's such an underrated title that it has not even been tested apparently?

Anyway, when I tried my usual method I got a black screen, it re-boots back to XMB menu, controller shuts off and all that. I double-checked that there was no existing CONFIG file in ps2classics for the game, I also did a deep dive online looking but no dice. So I'm ready to chalk it up to a no-go when I stumble upon the fact that it supposedly works on PCSX2. I install that emulator on my laptop and fire it up and sure enough the game works.

So, I guess my questions are: why does a game that works on PCSX2 not work with PS2 netemu? Would it be easier to conceivably get that game working on PS3 because it works on PCSX2? Has anyone tried and have any insight?

I did some digging into the PCSX2 GameDB file and found that no patches are associated with the game title. Looking at the emulator's log from running the game, it calls a pnach file that does a widescreen patch but that's all I could find. I traced down the patch and converted it into a CONFIG file and tried packaging that for install just in case it made the difference but still just a black screen/reboot.

PCSX2 and PS2 netemu are completely different programs running on completely different devices running completely different OS's on completely different CPU architectures.
That being said, there are videos of people playing it using a CFW modded PS3 so it should technically be possible with the correct config.
The compatibility list is just a community curated list, it's by no means complete.
