so got a strange thing here.
i have a drive full of backups from the 355-400 type of period, before i packed my ps3 away for a number of years.

now i am back into ps3 and running 4.88 evilnat,
everything runs fine other than 2 games.

Ketsui Kizuna Jigokutachi Extra [BLJM61060]
this game just blackscreens and freezes the console!!

Phantom Breaker Extra [BLJM61098]
blackscreens but you can still exit to xmb with the controller.

i checked they arent corrupt or patched - they arent.
so the question is, how could newer firmware stop an official game running??
and do other games have issues on newer firmwares??
i heard on another forum that Turok drops to xmb, but i never had that game to know.

Delete game data, mount the game again and launch it.

Also disable any custom service like CCAPI, mod plugins, etc.

If it is an external USB disk FAT32, run chkdsk /f x: to make sure that there are not cross linked files.

If the disk is NTFS or exFAT, you may need to run prepISO again if you use webMAN MOD.

If the problem persists, try dumping the games again with IRISMAN, multiMAN or ManaGunZ.

did everything other than a re-dump, the laser is dead.
what i did do is download the game from 2 different places and then compare checksums of the files in the iso,
it's not corrupt at all. (or atleast my personal dump matches 2 pirates)

i did see an interesting thread earlier that could be relevent.
someone found that the homebrew of heretic didnt work anymore because of the way the eboot was built.
it had a header but wasnt encrypted, this worked in the 355 days but not now.

got me wondering about old games - but surely official sony releases wouldnt be unencrypted?

originally in JB but i tried converting them to iso with no difference. :(
i delete all installed data and gamesaves between everything i test btw.

i have spent the week adding the updates to my iso's so i had to keep deleting the data to test it was being re-installed :D

It could be a hardware issue. Try applying the noBD patch.

Try with different backup managers.

Mount the JB game and launch it from ★ PlayStation or ★ app_home/PS3_GAME

will try that - also gonna look at the eboot's in a hex editor to see if they look unencrypted/unpacked.

if you install a game update (pkg) that contain an EBOOT.BIN, the files installed in /dev_hdd0/game take precedence over the files mounted in /dev_bdvd
