Getting returned to XMB when trying to launch "The Tomb Raider Trilogy"

i encountered a problem trying to launch "the tomb raider trilogy". i am on evilnat 4.90 and use the latest webman. now when i try to launch the game the it takes me right back to the XMB. i tried launching it with webman, managunz irisman..... always the same. i tried the BLUS the BLES both as .iso and also both in the KB GAMES folder all with the same results. i am always getting taken back to the XMB and the game won't launch.

funny thing is a couple of months ago i bought a new hdd and had to setup everything new and as far as i can recall i tested all of my games, including tomb raider, and i believe all it was working then. i even had some gama data from the patch it downloaded. deleted it just in case but still no luck.

also got myself new copies but still the same result.

anybody encountered this problem?

Could be based on where you got the ISOs from, possibly a licensing issue

Game should load fine if you ripped it to HDD from an original disc.

unfortunately i cannot run the game from the bluray my BD drive is broken. and the backup is from the original disc. i made it couple of years ago when my BD drive was still working.

the new copy of the game i got was not an iso. i made the iso on the ps3

Ok those multidisc titles can be a pain in the ass. Have two myself and what I did to get them to work is I ripped the game apart and made three separate ISO files. Same size and I prefer it this way. It's been so long but there was talk about how these games can be problematic especially with older loaders like multiMAN that haven't been updated for years.

great idea picking the games apart. never done that before. i tried to the best of my abilities to take the games apart but only get blackscreen and the ps3 freezes on game launch. i'm pretty sure i did something wrong :adoration: i tried to recreate a regular PS3 game folder structure with the given files from each game but without any luck. maybe this was the wrong approach.

how does one go about picking apart games? any tips? i guess it has to be done manually since there is no such option in any homebrew manager i know of

ok so made some screenshots of the folders of the original game

1.png

the ps3 content folder is a theme which is included in the game

from here i went into the TR7 folder, this is tomb raider legend, there is a USRDIR in there and those are it's contents

so what i did was created a new folder put everything from the original game in there, LICDIR, TRPODIR, param.sfo etc but i replaced the original USRDIR with the USRDIR from the TR7 folder

Give me a bit gonna grab my PC from work in a few. Pretty sure I had to edit the param.sfo file and I just looked at the structure of a standard game making sure they matched up like reboot in its normal place instead of in subfolder. The Walmart near me had 3-4 of these combo games towards the end of it's lifespan. Had never seen them so I got them for fun. Recall having issues with backup manager apps. Pretty sure it just worked with webMAN MOD though. I'll get back to you bud ASAP

Also let me message EvilNat I have been beta testing his latest software and it fixed the PS2 issues this may be something with the firmware itself bud have you tried backtracking to 4.88

sorry to hear that man... health comes first of course. hope you are doing better soon :flustered:

i read the thread you mentioned already but unfortunately for me this was a different issue. with his borderlands he actually had 3 disc icons in the xmb where he could choose the game he wanted to play directly from the xmb. with tomb raider it's a little different. when you load the game, or insert the disc for that matter, you only get two disc icons, one is for the game and the other one is for a theme that comes with the game. so you can only choose to load the game and this brings you into a sort of a game launcher where you can choose one of the 3 games.

funny that you mentioned the firmware because i am pretty sure i was on a lower firmware the last time i played this.... not sure which FW but since it was 2-3 years ago it must have been lower

hope you're feeling better soon
