PS2 GSM squishing image horizontally

Hello, just a quick question if you please.

I was not planning to use this mode but i decided to give it a try just to see how it is. I set Final Fantasy X International to HDTV 480p 60hz just to see if i could use progressive scan and it does work, signal is 480p and the image is less blurry during movement, but it also made the image be really squished on the horizontal plane, to the point i would say it's unplayable in this state.

So, question: Is this a game incompatibility issue, a mistake on my part, or just the way this mode always works?

Thank you.

So if i understood that right...there's nothing i can do because it's an issue with the game's internal resolution? Your example was about PAL and this game is NTSC but i guess that does not matter? Oh well, i wasn't expecting it to work anyway.

Why did the PS2 have to be such a clusterfuck when it comes to playing it 20 years later...
Greatest console ever made and i always called it the "people's console" because it was so affordable. Now 20 years later you're expected to shell out more than it's release price if you want it to look good.

Thanks for the answer

For this type of game, you can set your HDTV to forced widescreen or fullscreen mode to make it closer to 4:3. While not perfect, I think it's a good compromise.

Better to just keep the signal vanilla and get the correct aspect ratio i think, but thanks for the suggestion.
