not working :apologetic:
This is maybe not the best thread to get pyps3checker support. I think it might have been better to post in one of @littlebalup pyps3tools threads.

Do you have Python 2.7 (specifically 2.7, not another version) installed?
If you do, you can use the repo files directly.
If you don't, you should either install it or alternatively extract the files inside the "standalone zip archive" at the root of the repo.

The batch file for drag & drop expects python to be installed at:
c:\Python27\python.exe.
If the path is different in your local installation you need to edit the .bat file accordingly.

Imho you should just use the command line, open the command line console, use the cd command to set the appropriate folder & launch:
checker.py dump.hex

6. Reboot when the toolset tells you it is okay. Finally, install a CFW version equal to or higher than your current firmware version. If you get a validation error, do NOT reboot or turn off the PS3. Seek guidance in this forum.

I have got here in under an hour, rebooted seems fine on a newly purchased second hand ps3.

Probably obvious but the CFW I get from somewhere else, which is the best all round easiest to use please?
is there a best games loader app as well at all?

My 7 year old son is at the controls doing the hacking, I read out the commands! it works well.
We have hacked a few Wii's thought we would try ps3.

thank you

Evilnat 4.88.2 is the latest and has the newest version of Cobra. I recommend it for most users (and anybody wanting to use PSN easily). You can get it in this thread.

Yes, if you've already patched your flash using the PS3 Toolset then after a reboot you will be able to update via USB from System Update on the XMB. USB drive needs to be formatted as FAT32 with MBR, and the file needs to be called PS3UPDAT.PUP in the following file path:

USB:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP

very simple i thought it was touher to mod a cfw compatable but it really isnt just have to flash, patch, loadpatch and boom install a cfw version for example 4.88.2 evilnats fw (only cfw out rn atm

It's been easier for 3 or 4 years because ps3xploit began to offer software based ps3 jailbreak solutions to the public.
Before that you would have needed to disassemble the console in order to install a nand or nor hardware flasher before you could jailbreak a ps3 on fw > 3.55.

I'm on original firmware 4.88, running the toolkit tells me my firmware is non-compatible, it should be compatible right?

Can anyone tell me what's wrong.

Ps3 Slim (CECH-4204A) - OFW 4.88

It's not about the firmware version, it's about the console model.
Slims CECH3xxx & Super Slims CECH4xxx are "metldr2" models, they are not CFW compatible.
The Toolset is just doing its job, it won't let you brick your console if it detects that the console is not CFW compatible.

Will it be CFW compatible any time soon or am i out of luck?
They may never be CFW compatible if nobody finds new exploits to make it possible. I believe it will eventually happen though but I cannot put a time frame on it.

However, in the meantime, PS3HEN should address many of your needs.

Seems like the SSL certificate expired, only manually loading nofsm_patch.bin works
Yeah this is a pure pita.
The ssl cert is only valid for 3 months at a time & to get renewed automatically, the domain DNS settings must be temporarily changed. Unfortunately esc0 manages the domain names so I cannot apply the necessary modifications without him.
I could transfer the domain name to the ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com host to simplify matters & give me full control but the yearly domain renewal price would double & we are back to the same old issue with insufficient donations to cover the current costs, never mind increased costs.
Ideally I would get rid of the free ssl certs & buy a cert compatible with the PS3 browser on all fw since 4.10.

Anyway I will renew it as soon as esc0 responds to my message, it may take a while as he has been very busy lately..

my ps3 is a CFW compatible model, I got through step 5 where I downloaded and applied the patch. I ok, it never asked me to reboot the machine so I exited, disconnected from the internet a selected system update. I just went and installed 4.89 thinking I was install the 4.89 CFW from my flash drive. I am guessing that broke the 4.87 that I had patched with bgtoolset cause it gave me an corupt error when I tried again when it would let me select from storage media. I did save a dump as per the guide. I was planning on moving to a larger hard drive... I started the backup last night but it had an estimated completion time of 13 hours. What are my options for trying install CFW into my system?

Which firmware are you on now. Once we know that then more advice can be given.
If your on 4.89 then you will have to wait for an update to bgtoolset for 4.89 support.
If your on 4.87 then you can use bgtoolset to patch and install CFW.
If your on a CFW already, just install the CFW like 4.89 Evilnat

my ps3 forced official update... I mad the mistake of thinking it was pulling the CFW from the USB but it installed the OFW instead. So it looks like I waiting for the bgtoolset update.
