Hello everyone, I have a very minty cechc04 which i truly love, its been delidded, cleaned, and has very few hours on it.
Only problem was its drive was failing, it was struggling with blu rays and dvds (including ps2 games)
So, I searched my stack of ps3 drives, and found one of the later fat ones, which has the two separate lasers, I thought Id try it out because I had heard that the 2-laser drives where the best and most reliable.
So I did the classic process, with installing no-bd firmware etc etc, and it worked fine.
I put a ps3 disc in, played just fine, it was noticeably faster. But then, I popped a ps2 disc in there, and, nothing. It just shows up as a data disc, same with ps1 games, put them in, reads them as data discs.
I have battled with this problem for a year, I have made another post about this here on this forum, noone knows whats happening. Its not a huge deal, I can still load the isos from my internall hdd and keep the hardware emulation, its just really annoying that I cant just put a ps2/ps1 disc in my ps3 and play them
Ive tried enabling/disabling cobra, uninstalling webman/multiman, downgrade to 4.88 or other versions, pretty much everything.
The only thing I havent tried is , well, just changing the bd drive. But why? Why would I have to try that? From what I read people did the exact same thing as me and it changed nothing. No issues, nothing. And this drive i put on it is a very good one, even though it sees the ps1/ps2 discs as data discs even them it reads immediately
So my question is, has anyone done a bd drive swap on a bc ps3 lately? Did you have any issues? Could it be a weird incompatibility with the firmware? I know this drive i put on it apart from the same connector is completely different, but since the install process went fine whats the issue here?
