PS3 Has this PS3 been previously CFWd?

Hello,

I'm just about to go through the process of replacing the HDD in a Slim console which I'm planning to use to replace my dying Phat one.

Before taking out the HDD, I decided to use PS3Toolset to grab copies of they syslog, the flash memory dump and then the flash memory patch dump.

When it comes to the flash memory patch dump, it's actually called a name. It came up as "nofsm_patch_491.bin". When it was downloading to the memory stick, I saw a reference to "CFW" in the activity. I wish I'd taken a photo, but I didn't.

Is this a standard name or is it indication that this PS3 has previously had CFW on it?

I only ask as I'll be finding out pretty soon I guess if this console has been banned by Sony through someone elses doing. I really hope not, as this is planned to be my fulltime machine!

This is the danger of buying a console from Ebay!

Ah no wait, I'm being dumb aren't I. This is the CFW patch file from bguerville for patching a console to become CFWd isn't it.

DOH! Forget me. (Unless i'm wrong of course)

God I hope this console is ok, and not been banned. It's gonna be a massive headache for me to spin my case out to Sony, and even then whether they believe me or not, remains to be seen. This could bring down my entire Playstation life! PS3, PS4, PSP.

yes, tools like bgtoolset perform a noFSM patch on the ps3 in order to allow the installation of a custom firmware, so it's kind of a give-away. Ofc it doesn't necessarily mean CFW was installed afterwards but there's a good chance it was.

I'm really nervous about signing into this thing with my account. I'm wondering if I should create another account, and sign in with it. That way it should check that the console is ok? Is that a plan?

well, it's always a risk no matter what, but it's been a long time since I last heard of a ban (only in games like Destiny or some CODs that have a verification system of their own). I personally use my main account on my PS3 HEN for like a year now and so far so good. Just don't mess much with modded trophies/cheats or something like that, otherwise I'd recommend an alt account. Be sure to always disable syscalls before going online too.

Right, so i've created a new account. No harm having two, i can keep them side by side, and only use my original one for stuff that matters to me. What do I have to do now to understand if this console is ok, and not been banned?

Is that it checked already, or do I have to do something else to invoke a Sony check mechanism?

if you were able to log in with a new PSN account, then that console hasn't been banned. You can't do that in a banned console unless you use a new IDPS.

Excellent! I'm glad. That means my Ebay seller wasn't attempting to screw me over! So pleased!

I may use this new account to check the other consoles I've recently bought last week now.
