I have a slim model running cfw 4.86 rebug lite and I removed my hdd to format another hdd and when I put my hdd back in the system when I press power button it comes on but has no audio/video signal. I can go into recovery mode but none of the options work. They all send me to a no video signal screen. I tried reinstalling my cfw but when I select software update it just freezes the console. Also out of sheer stupidity I didn't back the hdd up before any of this. Anyone got any ideas

And i guess the hdd was working normally the last time you unplugged it ?

Instead of entering recovery menu (by doing the button sequence 2 times) do the button sequence only 1 time... this should reset video output

I have tried that as well and still no video signal on either source (hdmi/av). I also bought a blank hard drive and set it up with ofw and it functioned as it should so it's not video signal. Only thing I can think to try now is to hook hard drive up to computer and see if the data can be salvaged to make a clone and format then put clone back on hdd. My gut is telling me I'm just gonna have to start from scratch since new hdd works and old one doesn't but I may get lucky

The old hdd and the new hdd both have the same firmware version, right ? (4.86 based), this is important but you didnt mentioned it explicitelly

I have the suspiction some TV's stores info about the PS3 connected to it, im sure they arctually does for some features like the "CEC control" because the TV needs to create a list (and keep it updated) with all the CEC devices that was connected to the TV, with his identifyers and etcs... but maybe are storing some more settings like screen resolutions
That could be a problem, because for the TV your PS3 is the same device, before and after replacing the hdd
At least in the first boot of the PS3 with the new hdd, the TV could be storing the settings from the previous hdd

Not sure, im just thinking loud because im wondering if it could be a problem related with the TV or the HDMI cable
I would try to connect the PS3 to a different TV or using different HDMI cables just incase
