Having trouble installing CFW

Basically I had an HDD break on me and I had to reformat my drive, and somehow I removed CFW. The drive got reformated so CFW is gone.


I asked around and they said i'd have to flash my PS3, but I have a lot of questions and I am very confused.

1. I'm on 4.82, it said update twice so I did a fresh"big" install of OFW 4.82 (I know there's two update files one big one small I installed the big one) I installed OFW again but this time the smaller one, does it matter?

2. My console is a CECH-2501A

I used minverchk and it said update data of version 3.40 or later can be installed on this system FYI


3. It says something about a flash 482.hex, I am confused, is this a file I need to download and put on a USB drive or is this a file you get once you flash your PS3?

4. What slot does the USB drive go in on the PS3? I have a 2GB fat32 formatted drive if that matters.

5. "Open the browser. The exploit page will load automatically. Choose your path option." I haven't done this yet as I am too scared, when it asks for path option does it mean it will ask for a storage device? then I just choose USB?

6. "On success, load the **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) flash dumper, dump the flash memory & validate it with py checker tool." What option do I pick? flash dumper>NOR>? I think from my model number I have a NOR console, so that's what I would choose?

7. " dump the flash memory & validate it with py checker tool. " my only question here is what do I download from that link? there's a few files I see here, checker,patcher, and rebuilder. Which do I use?


Sorry for all the questions but I am a noob and don't wanna screw this up, I am just trying to get CFW back so I need help please.
 
Yo you unflashed it if it was before ;) installing OFW from a CFW is killing the jailbreak thatz being on the NOR or NAND depending on witch modell u got ;) The first thing u never should do is installing a OFW onto an CFW it bassicly killz it >(
now you have to get it downgraded again to 3.55 ;)
that suckz i agree but yeah thatz th flawz of being a modder but a common beginner fail ;)
but i never did it on my self you just have to be carefull
and yo that thing with the HDD yeah they can break dude ;) i suggest you to install a 250gb SSD instead of an HDD, just better in anyway (used for PCs most:) and they are not to expensive but more than a typical 2,5inch HDD

Your not the first person to this and you won't be the last to do this it's unfortunate you have to reflash your console.

An SSD drive I wouldn't recommend on a PS3 as you only will get slightly better performance compared to a standard HDD as the PS3 hardware was built at a time before SSD therefore can't really take full advantage of it.

If you were already on CFW before this it was almost pointless to use 'Minver Check'. But handy in some ways to know what the minimum Firmware version is if you ever wanted to install a lower FW version at some point.

You do not have to downgrade your console any more to install CFW there is a new xploit that let's you install CFW directly from 4.82 OFW after you have successfully installed the xploit.

Ok. Your step 1 & 2 are well done. No problem there.
However I strongly recommend that you use the HDD version of the Flash Writer.
It's faster, avoids all the potential USB issues & dealing with the hex file.
