I'm Skyneon, quite new to PlayStation only really having had Xboxes and a couple Nintendos in the past, but so far had 2 die on me (CECHL04 - RSOD, CECHM03 - YLOD). I mostly got interested in PlayStation by wanting to have a way to play Gran Turismo games, and picking up a few more PS exclusives on the side.
Currently I have a PS3 Slim (CECH-3003A) and a PSP-1000 with a decently sized collection of PS3 games at this point, and thanks to my less-than-ideal experience with the fat PS3s I did pick up, I do have quite the interest in the hardware itself now :p
