Hi, first of all sorry for my broken english, its not my first language.
Im trying to play retro games on my ps2 with the most recent version of retroarch, I run the .elf app and everything seems to work fine except when I try to save my configuration, it always prompts a error "Failed to save configuration file on Mass:/Retroarch..." I tried to run it on 2 pendrives as well coping the .elf to the memory card but it doesnt fix the error, and when I try to load a game the screen blinks some colors, then it goes black, and it takes me again to the main menu of retroarch, (it also goes back to the factory settings since it doesnt save any configuration) it doesnt matter the core or rom I use, any idea whats going on? I was thinking it my be some problems with writte and read permissions on my usb but changing that also doesnt fix the problems, it cannot save log files either, my ps2 is running Chip Matrix and McBoot.

I am only asking for protocol...

Did you disabled Matrix at console startup?

You need to hold START button during the boot process, then you will see a confirmation message, saying that Matrix was deactivated... Now you have to reset the console and run RetroArch.

Note that deactivating Matrix in this way only remains in effect during this session, or as long as you reset the console. But the moment you turn it off and turn it back on, Matrix will be active again, so it is a process that you must do every time you turn on the console.

I have exactly the same problem. The PicoDrive core works, but thats the crazy part: PicoDrive works perfect but the NES and SNES cores doesn't work. Doesn't load the games and go back to the menu screen. I'm using uncompressed no-intro romsets BTW.

I didn't try any other core because I don't care. I only want NES, Genesis and SNES.

And I have the same problem that RetroArch doesn't save the settings. I try everything in the last 3 days and I can't find any clue

I did that too but it doesn't work either :(

I couldn't make it work correctly, but some things I notice is that on the newer version the .elf file doesnt create the system directories of retroarch either the config files, older versions do, I believe up to 1.9.4 or bellow, newer version have problems but! If you copy all the directories and system files created by an older version and paste it to the newer one it sort of works, but still you cannot load any game, idk whats going on but on older versions you can load games but the performance is terrible on Snes, NES runs Ok but the aspect ratio of retroarch is all over the place, I play on a CRT and retroarch looks squished on the horizontal axis and I couldnt figure out how to fix it, SNES runs terrible, slow, and I also tried NXengine to play Cave story but the game its all buggy, If you want to emulate SNES use Snesticle instead it runs really good, its the best emulator for the PS2, the only problem is that compatibility is quite limited, try some games and check what works and what doesnt, I might keep experimenting with retroarch later and see if I can fix the aspect ratio at least to plat NES games.

I have the same problems that you report. The only different is that I'm testing the PS2 on a LCD TV and I'm using an HDMI adapter. After that it's always the same.

After test all the stable versions I figure it out that Retroarch works perfect until version 1.9.6. From version 1.9.7 onwards have the problems that I reported.

I don't understand what could it crash since that version, but I will have to stick with version 1.9.6 until this problem will be fixed. At least I found a version that works for me :tears of joy:

Interesting, how is the performance on your console? specialy on SNES, There is no much feedback on the PS2 version of retroarch maybe thats why it has not been fixed, id like to use a newer version of retroarch since I would be able to change the X and Y values from the menu and fix the aspect ratio, maybe there is a way to do it using the config file but who knows how! :indecisiveness:

I didn't test a lot of SNES yet but I found some graphical glitches (like the sky is green, for example). Castlevania Dracula X and Super Metroid runs a bit slow.

On the other side, "light" games like Super Mario World or Super Castlevania 4 runs perfect.
