Help to get PS4 out of demo/kiosk mode?

I unknowingly bought a PS4 that is in a demo/kiosk state. Seller refuses to refund and eBay sided with them because it was shown functional in the listing. I've reset it multiple times, thru the OS and thru safe mode, I've formatted the drive, nothing works. I did some research and a guy sent it to Sony but had to pay $150+, which I don't have at all. Any tips?

What firmware is it on? If it's not exploitable I'm pretty sure you will be forced to update to latest firmware.

In fact you may not be able to get it out of it if it's on a non expoitable firmware. But unless it was originally meant to be a kiosk whoever owned it probably used the debug settings to get it there in the first place then pawned it off on you. That sucks man they scammed you but if you're 7.55 or below there's a way to get out of it. I would give them negative feedback on Ebay do not let them get away with at least getting negative feedback and you explaining what they did because they deserve it.

Make sure internet is disconnected because it will try to update to latest firmware. You will have to figure out an offline exploit I think if you have rebooted which I assume you have by now.

What's scary is it could have updated you already if you're been using internet. Do the button combo I posted R1 + R2 + L1 + L2 + Up on d-pad + Options hold all those buttons down until it changes to staff mode then go into settings and check firmware.

To prevent updating, just blacklist update servers on router (if console ignoring system settings).

I guarantee what happened the seller got into that mode and it updated him to latest firmware, and he sold it to OP. You may be screwed I don't know of a way to get out of it without an exploit unless you wait until that firmware is exploited. Could be years nobody knows.

And Ebay sided with the seller. That's straight bullshit. At least give him negative feedback tell other people not to buy from him.

Could you post a link to that Ebay page OP? It should be in your purchases history. I just wanna check it out. I've been on Ebay for 20 years as a seller and buyer. I've been scammed a few times as a seller. One time I sold Xenogears on PS1 it was in perfect shape looked brand new, but buyer posted a picture of a game that was busted into pieces and said that was how he got it. He obviously kept my perfect copy and showed a picture of his own game and Ebay sided with him and I lost the money and the game.

I've gotten screwed a few times on ebay. once, when I bought an official wii u box for my second wii u (still have the system), the person put the box in a skintight package that felt like paper. well, it came crushed. I took pictures of it, which I still have, but ebay or paypal sided with the seller for some reason. it really pissed me off. $20 down the drain.

edit: yep, I still have the pictures:

Oh I forgot one back towards when I first was on Ebay I bought Marvel vs Capcom 2 for Dreamcast was supposed to be original game. They sent me a burned disc lol. The seller unregistered from Ebay and at the time I couldn't get my money back because Ebay didn't cover you like they do now if you get screwed over.

that's why Amazon is looking better every day. usps is a disaster when you have to ship with them on ebay. there's an Amazon distribution center in my city, so it usually takes 1 day to get most things from Amazon, as long as you're buying from Amazon and not a third-party. and, you get Amazon's delivery service, which is quite good.

It's on 8.50 as I said, I updated when I reformatted using the latest .PUP on Sony's website. It was on 8.03 when I got it so I would still have to wait for an exploit either way. Also the jackass seller deleted his account this morning, meaning the listing is gone. This guy on Twitter recommended I do this https://twitter.com/_alazif/status/1393951196612681732?s=21
No idea what any of that means, and he's not the quickest to reply. Can anyone go into more detail?

I would ask to speak with a manager at paypal, if that's what you used. I once bought a linux media player, and I formatted the drive to ext3 or 4. well, something was wrong with the media player as it would randomly not detect the drive or something, so I wanted to return it. paypal sided with the seller stating that I had formatted the drive, thus changing something internally with the system. it made no sense, because you had to format the drive to use it. I asked to speak with a manager and explained the situation. they then issued me a refund. the person who did my case originally must've been a moron.

I would keep fighting with Ebay over it and say he deleted his account. They usuall side was the buyers I say this as someone who has sold and lost cases I shouldn't have because they usually side with the buyers.

Starting this year I don't know if they completely got rid of Paypal but as a seller I had to setup something to get paid by Ebay directly, and at first they wanted my entire social security number I wasn't going to do it but last week I tried it again and they changed it to last 4 of ssn which I did.
