PS2 help with questions about the original NA Sony HDD adapter

Hello everyone, I was looking for a NA adapter for my 39001 and another 50001, the idea was to buy a gamestar Sata but I managed to buy an original 10281 for a good price on the internet, the problem is that it is an IDE connector and my computer doesn't have it support for this entry, and IDE to sata converter adapter found only from china, already the hd IDE I have for a good price. But I have some doubts.
* I have free mcboot installed, ulaunchelf and I can install other homebrews if necessary, it has a good reader

1- The IDE HDs sold over the internet are offered without allocation, it is necessary to format them to be recognized on the computer. Does the PS2 recognize an unpartitioned, unallocated HD? and then format it by the device and pass the games by FTP? Does this work or will it not recognize the HD?

2- If there is no way to do what was proposed above, to install a HD without partition and then format it by the device, what format should the HD be in to be recognized? Fat32, NTFS, etc?

3- Can I play on PS2 FAT by FTP without HD installed on it by OPL? is the process the same as in Slim?

4- To use sata HDs on this adapter, I can use a sata to IDE converter like this:
https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/2055...ff!63597007490!sea&curPageLogUid=I5xNmVbOVmwP
I saw some tutorials that said to work these sata adapters for IDE but I have my doubts.
I also know Bitfunx adapters, the idea is to buy one, but I don't have the money now and for a while the idea would be to use one of these if it worked

I think that's what I remember, anything I'll do an edit.
I appreciate any help.

1. It's not necessary to format hdd on pc first. PS2 will detect it and you can format it using hdd manager in ulanchelf. You can install games using LAN either.
3. Smb works on your fat PS2
4. You would probably get problem fitting that sata adapter with 3.5 inch hdds in PS2. But I think there are some adapters especially designed for your purpose.

But the functionality of this adapters is questionable.

so the HD may be unallocated and the PS2 will still recognize it in the file manager and then I can format it?

Yes. In uLaunchELF -> MISC -> HDD Manager.
R1 opens the menu Then you can select format.
The next steps are ;
Use FMCB installer to install FHDB on the HDD so you don't need a FMCB MC anymore.
Go back in HDD manager to make a +OPL partition and expand it to a reasonable size suitable for VMCs and ART etc.
Use this program to install games using ftp
Edit: it's not FTP. But still using network.

OPL on start looking for "hdd0:/__common/OPL/hdd_conf". If there is written "hdd_partition=__common", then all resources be read and write there. If he not find it, it will looking for "hdd0:/PP.OPL", if he don't find it, he will create "hdd0:/+OPL". At least this is how it works in v1.1.0 (all older using only +OPL).

AFAIK unfortunately v1.1.0+ does not support PS1 VCDs. So for PS1 games we need to use older versions and that +OPL partition will be created. I wish PS1 games support come to latest OPL version soon.
Edit: PS1 games work on OPL but not as the way OPL-DB works. My mistake.

This was interesting. So the great easy to use HB application I knew from the beginning was OPL DB. Good to know that. Did That "particular site JJ" do something against devs here? Not crediting others works or something?
Why popstarter is not supported in latest version?

Edit: It is supported. thanks to the great PS2 developers. I mismatched OPL with OPL-DB.

NO, FTP is NOT suitable for that!

Not true... For one, OPL never had anything related to PS1 implemented and second it can still link to PS1-games in the APPS-page!

The "thing" you knew from the beginning was OPL DB, never any OPL...

We are not going to reiterate the whole shebang over and over... Read some threads like the "what should I use OPL vs OPL DB".
Why popstarter is not supported in latest version?
"supported"? It IS supported... It just doesn't have a "page" specifically for it... POPS is from Sony, POPStarter is a closed source project rebuilding it, OPL is open source and AFL licensed... Not a good mix.
DVD-R & CD-R're the best than HDD for PS2
Bullshit-artist... How more often do you want to SPAM your opinion about this everywhere and how does this relate to the topic???
is this a question or doubt?
Just him putting his mustard everywhere...

First Thank you for the corrections. I am learning here. Just a misunderstanding about PS1 games because of my lack of knowledge about the real OPL I made from this post. It's all my fault.

"This great easy to use homebrew applications" is the same as OPL with exception that using POPStarter on added page and was compiling on ancient ps2sdk, introducing mane bugs and game compatibility issues. ;)

If You want better way to launch PS2 and PSX games (IMO), install HDD OSD + use OPL + OPL-Launcher for PS2 games; and POPStarter for PSX games. All as separated partitions, launched from OSDSYS menu instead OPL menu.

In 3/4 past years I have installed OPL DB on nearly 100 PS2s without any issues. No major compatibility problems nothing. It was/is updated frequently witch is really nice.
The separated POPS page is a brilliant idea IMO and people like it. And not a single person who I modified his PS2 takes care about implementing closed source application into an open source application or anything. They just wanted their games.
I like the way you advise but I didn't test HDD OSD. I want to set up one of my own PS2 HDDs like that. The results would be great.

A long time ago, I installed some games by FTP in the HDD IDE of my PS2 Fat (SCPH-39004). The speed is not fantastic as it does not exceed 2MB/s. I don't remember what software I used but it worked...

I don't know any application which allow to write disc image into fs space of apa partition. Only to browse/send/download in PFS file systems. You cannot use FTP to create game partitions, in theoretically only to overwrite existing and still it is tricky. Are You sure that You didn't mislead it with something else? ;)
