Hey a shiny new PSX website! Sweet, hi!

Hello everyone!

Okay, just a bit of rambling about how I've experienced the scene years. I barely ever post, so I'll make this count. For lost time

Alright, so this place does look cosy. Found it via STLCardsWS, of course, on Psx-scene.

A great website which has steadily held my hand through all these intense moments we've had during these years in the PS3 scene (Heck, I probably used it even before the PS3 days... it was up, wasn't it, long before PS3? My memory's just gone now...), but which sadly has been having a couple of issues recently, as I understand it. Been feeling it pretty slow to update these days.

My baby is a gorgeous piano black 80GB CECHL upgraded to 500GB.
I started following the scene closely as soon as the news of Linux being removed in 3.15 came out. I remember I stayed on that version for quite some time because of that. I hadn't really looked into it yet, but I liked having the option. I never even installed any Linux distro on any machine in my life. I shamefully admit I don't even know what it looks like.

Then PSGroove became open source and then dongles were going for 10$ online instead of 100+. I'm a guy who likes to get his hands a little dirty and after modding and regularly fixing/cleaning various consoles I own, the jailbreaking thing really seemed TOO simple, like I wasn't working hard enough for such a great prize if I was just buying a USB stick online.
So I built my own PIC-based dongle (or should I say breadboard) as well as the programmer for it for about 10 euros. Had a great time, learned many things.PSGroopic 3.15 to the rescue, good times. I must say I'm pretty proud of myself for figuring it all out without asking a single question about it online, just by carefully reading up and preparing the build, even tho I knew squat about microcontrollers. Anyway fun stuff, but the point being even that task, which for me, was big, I got through without asking anyone., and that at the time was a bit of work I had to put in, but extremely fun to do.

I guess I had trouble playing the newer games at some point because I did update to 3.41, counting on the fact jailbreaking would lead to getting Linux back anyway... and then I stayed on that as long as I possibly could fixing my newer eboots when I could...all that thru the drama that ensued, what with the geohot/sony mess, then later again the mathieulh/QA Flag token cat-and mouse chase everybody was getting bonkers about and "CAN IT RUN GT5????" and all that jazz.

Then I basically forgot about everything for sometime, then 4.30/4.40 was around when I came back to it. That's when I finally made the jump to Kmeaw 3.55, just long enough to QA Flag, and straight to I think it was 4.40... And now that wasn't like building a dongle, but it still had that feel of a leap of fatih, you know... I always feel like a bomb squad guy with his scissors around the red wire. Always afraid to break what was already working fine, just because I got greedy and wanted to play the newer games. I'm anything but a developer so this is borderline magic for me. Many of these things I don't actually understand if not vaguely, in concept. Sometimes, that's enough to make me feel confident about what I do to beloved and faithful PS3, sometimes, like more recently... it's not.

Anyway, as I said, nothing like building a dongle, just a series of softmods, but still at the time it was daunting. The point through all this is that it remained fun. The learning about it, the building of confidence based on that knowledge etc.

Now is the Cobra era. Again, I had to catch up on that, and I put it off for some time. I was on Rogero 4.46 and I went straight to Darknet 4.66 Cobra, I'm starting to familiarize with the plugins system, well mostly webman of course. I must admit with each new era in the scene, the amount of things I don't fully comprehend is growing, and so is my insecurity in actually doing things with my PS3.

Like for example, at some point on, I think it may have been 4.46 or a bit before, I got banned one night, as I carelessly tried playing online with a backup or something and boom, hammer time. Fully knowing the risks, you know, just... you know pressin gbuttons like a big old brainless zombie.. hehe dunno what I was thinking served me well. Anyway, as I understand it, now there's something I can do about that, and I'm more than interested in trying, but I'll need a lot of confidence and just a little bit of "know what I'm doing", understand all the different factors, etc.

So you can be sure I'll ask around about that when the time comes(When I get a donor ps3, I suppose that will be).
I already have a couple of doubts about both webman/webmanMOD and my cfw, which I haven't really found answer to yet online.
I'll ask my questions soon in the right section of course.

So yeah basically this is me and my quick history/viewpoint throughout the scene years. I don't post very often, and I don't usually like asking for help until I'm certain I can't figure it out by myself. I must admit, though, that some of the recent developments leave me feeling a bit like an old man in need of directions so hopefully after reading about some of my experiences here you'll maybe agree I'm not just am impatient and clueless noob (or I least I wasn't before), and you'll be willing to help me out and be patient with me. Hopefully I'll be able to give back, as well.

In closing, it's great to be here, and even tho I shamefully register with the intention of asking for help, I wanna show tht' I'm not just a leech who asks about what he needs and then disappears never helping out anyone again. I don't post a lot, but I do lurk, and I do feel very much a part of this great community, and if I have something worthwhile to say or if I can offer my help to anyone on here, I'll be sure to do it.

Thanks for reading my boring life story!

So...uh, welcome...but the essay assignment was cancelled. We kept calling and you didn't pick up (probably doing the essay [go figure]). So, i hope it wasn't too much of a bother. Maybe we can get you some extra credit.

..........

Welcome to the forums, seems like you have followed the PS3 scene for sometime :).. Great to see you and dont be afraid to ask questions :)

Also webMAN (& MOD) as one of the best things about the PS3 scene.. Its a great plugin. (Which plugin system we have had for about a year on the PS3)

Too long for me to read
Lol apart from that, welcome to the site accompanied by friendly and cooperative moderators and users!
