Here's the official demo video from SONY, it's the same for all models, if you are on 4.89 then you don't really need recovery mode to install 4.90 HFW over 4.89 FW.

To be honest I have tried all these, im still stuck, for almost 6 months now

Or is it possible to use 4.90HFW and skipping the official update?

FYI: after swapping HDD on 4.86, installing this HFW via recovery does not work

UPDATE: the above statement is not true, it was my usb drive which was not being recognized

You can skip official FW, and install directly 4.90 HFW.

The process is very similar to 4.85. But as the Flash Writer for 4.90 is new, you should wait for a newer tutorial.
