4.90.1 HFW (Hybrid FirmWare)

PS3 HFW 4.90.1 (Hybrid Firmware) -

hey guys. ive been trying to "jailbreak" my ps3 (on 4.84 or 4.85 OFW atm) its the regular slim one and i have no clue from when it is. I dont need to go to psn or anything. actually all i want is to install some dlcs that i cant buy in the playstation store anymore. can anyone please recommend me an easy and safe way to get there? I can also pay/donate some money via paypal but the more i try to understand whats going on in this forum the more confused i get tbh. thanks in advance for any help

it would help to tell me if hybrid is enough and if the smartest way to get there is upgrading to 4.9 and then using this website. because i think i know how to do that.

You can skip official FW, and install directly 4.90 HFW.

Joonie, one of the members of Rebug Team, a great guy with vast experience developing CFW.

EDIT: Here is the newest tutorial from @MrMario2011
Small advice for mrmario2011, he should mention psx-place somewhere in the title or thumbnail. If the developers of hfw/hen themselves endorse his work than it's definitely worth it being mentioned somewhere as being so, that way less informed people know it's an endorsed source of information if that makes sense? Even if it's like, just a unique badge somewhere on the thumbnail? Given the dislike button is now hidden it's harder to see who's trustable without going to the comments section :/

I dunno if that sounds stupid, or something, but I guess I'm just a bit bothered of people who were promoting the leaked bgtoolset for instance.

it would be nice if there was like, something that devs could at least do for video tutorial makers that were trusted, and eventually, it might be that others take a note and start doing the same thing in their scenes too to mark trustable creators.

While I have no reason to watch the video personally, it's always nice to see there are actually good tuts around and being made as so many of them are awful these days on youtube

CECH-2004B just updated to OFW 4.90, used minver in the drive (2.70 or later can be installed).
So the drive its recognized... I can see it under photos an video, but it does not find anything trying to update.
E:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP
Should I try safe mode??
Why it is not working?
Because the firmware version is the same.
You have to install it from Recovery Mode (Safe Mode).

Thanks dude. Can you help me where to find the cer file in Ps3 or where to put the files?

If you're on the latest 4.90 HFW or OFW, you do not need this, if you insist, you can grab PUAD GUI v1.5 and unpack dev_flash yourself and find the certs. and again you do not need to do this on 4.90 and putting this on lower FW won't do any good either since VSH won't load new certs.

Here's quote from @bguerville

I don't know how many times I need to say this, this tool is a file swapping poc, not a functional ssl manager!

Adding/swapping a ssl certificate whether manually (copying/editing files in /dev_flash) or through this injection tool is pointless.
The system won't be able to use it & it may lead to a partial brick for your troubles.

It is most likely possible to add custom ssl certificates with CFW & even with HEN but there is no tool available & no patches made public to do it.

I think the SSL cert tool was just for educational/testing purpose that time when the work on PETT exploit lead to advanced & major steps

What's the PS3's exact model number? It's on a white sticker at the back of the unit. Starts with CECH, followed by four digits.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience but by chance you won't have another server other than mega, it's just that I always have problems when downloading something that weighs a lot there?

So, I just found an old PS3 of mine. The model number is CEJH-10020. Is it CFW compatible? I can't even find any CFW info about it online. Only thing Im seeing is CECH information

Thanks a lot

Because the firmware version is the same.
You have to install it from Recovery Mode (Safe Mode).

Right, it worked in recovery mode.

Recovery mode for NAND/eMMC models, NOR models can install same firmware version multi time from XMB

@PeterPetrelli19 USB should MBR FAT32 ,try format again and see

Wrong, I have a NOR, as I said I used minver to check so MBR FAT32 USB is right and it worked.
XMB did not recognize the update, using recovery/safe mode did.

I am getting impatient about HEN. I hope there won't be any problems with it. Is it possible to give us some progress update of the work being done. Thanks in advance and thank you for your your invaluable efforts for supporting and developing for ps3.
