No, if you are coming from 4.89 then you don't need to use recovery mode to use HEN.

installing the same version twice was only recommended to use flashwriter. And those models with NAND flash won't allow you to update from XMB when installing the same version number of firmware. Which was why using recovery mode has always been default for that scenario since the day 1 of PS3xploit launch

not needed. hen has issues with at least old webman but hfw is fine.

Honestly that's not even an issue with HFW or HEN ,it's webMAN MOD applying patches badly and crash the system after HEN is trying to load webMAN MOD. Which was why we have been telling you to bypass or disable plugin until you update your webMAN.

if i try to change my internal drive like SSD or replace it..

Correct, when you replace your HDD you will lose boot_plugins.txt and no webMAN would be there so you can start everything from scratch without any crashing issue. Make sure you install the latest webMAN MOD that supports 4.90 FW

Guys, how do I update WebMan if there is not a "Games" folder on my XMB with a "Package Manager"?

I updated HFW and HEN before WebMan then found out the mess I got myself into.

EDIT: I managed to make the "Games" folder show up by launching a PKG game, and so installed the newest WebMan, but HEN still freezes when enabling it.

webman's pkg only installs an installer. you have to run that icon one time to update.

use boot_plugins.txt on usb while enabling hen. run the webman installer while holding down L1 until reboot. should be good to go.

Even with vpn, every single time I download this software, the MD5 is incorrect. Its always the same.... it just doesnt match whats on the site. Is there something wrong with the download? Is there somewhere else I can get this software? Ive been trying since it was first offered. Thx

You are probably checking the MD5 of the ZIP file and not the firmware update itself. Either way, if the file is corrupted the PS3 will never install it. I honestly don't see the point in checking the hashes of HFW PUPs when you're installing from OFW. The update verification process will just tell you that the data is corrupted if that is the case.

Well, you were right about me hashing the zip. Made sense to me that the file I downloaded should be the one I'd be verifying… but that's taken care of now. NOW I can't get my PS3 to update from the flash drive. I read that it's finicky when it comes to USB drives, but I have no others to try - especially nothing old.

Update your HEN. HEN 3.2.0 supports HFW 4.90.

When HFW was out HEN wasn't ready so that was why it had that statement, I corrected it now so it would not confuse people like that.

Thank you, I did the exploit and now everything seems to be working again. It didn't even occur to me at the time that I needed to update HEN. All good now.

Unfortunately that requires resigning UPL.pkg that can't be done on 3K and 4K model.

Hello! Recently, I bought a modded PS3 and updated it to 4.90.1, everything went as it should until one point, that being 1 week ago. I tried enabling HEN and it was just stuck loading and found a temporary fix ( not the boot_plugins.txt document ). Everything was going fine until the same thing happened. I tried doing every single possible thing to repair it but it's just stuck loading. I even erased my whole PS3 to do such thing but guess what? IT'S STILL STUCK LOADING, EVEN AFTER REINSTALLING HEN AND 4.90.1 HFW. PLEASE, I AM BEGGING. WHAT DO I DO? IS THIS VERSION JUST BUGGY? IS MY PS3 NOT WORKING CORRECTLY??? HELP ME PLEASE!

I'm having trouble installing HFW on a CECH 2004 already on OFW 4.90 , i get a " no applicable data " . I tried two USB sticks . Am i doing something wrong or it's a common issue ? I can't go into Recovery because i have a knock-off gamepad .

Managed to install in recovery mode using the same stick that didn't work in XMB . What surprised me is that i had 4.88 HFW on a different stick and that was recognised, even if the installed software was 4.90 OFW . But the stick with 4.90 HFW was not recognised in XMB . Explain this :|)
