can i swap from cfw to PS3HEN? just curious, and yes i know, people are gonna ask why i would want to. the reason is its way harder to not get banned using cfw, and sure i could just delete syscalls, but thats an annoyance.
 
My usb is not getting read at all by my ps3 super slim ive used rufus and ive formatted it to fat32 but for some reason it keeps getting recognized as a usb but whenever i go to system updates it says no applicable update data was found if anyone knows what to do that would be great since im new to modding ps3s

I had this issue while recently jailbreaking my PS3. My usb worked my first time trying to jailbreak but I had to redo it. The second time through it was doing exactly the same thing as what's happening to you.
I ended up using a different usb stick and also updating in the Safe Mode. Try that!
If not maybe try this option with the BGtoolset

Please help me[emoji120] I have the official 4.90 and I want to install 4.90. I already tried a thousand things, even recovery and it always does the same thing to me :( help

i wrote a pup install guide HERE. it has troubleshooting tips. you should at least try the trick were you unplug the controller.
 
cant update, says no applicable data found (in recovery mode) howveer in XMB it reads but stops with the error 80029c55. i formatted the drive twice in FAT32 but still no. Any ideas anyone?

0x80029C55 = Error occurred while accessing storage media (Issues updating the PS3)

It could be an issue with your USB device. Try another and verify that the MD5 of the PUP matches with the expected value after copy the file to the new device.

Also check that the file is found in \PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP (all letters in folder & file in uppercase)

Remove all USB devices, except the pendrive with the update.
Eject any PS3 disc in the bluray drive before update.
 
Yes i tried every step, the MD5 matches aswell, the folders are the same as you have told and there isnt any disk in my ps3 when i try it, but still it says copying failed, i think there might be a problem with my ps3 port since there isnt any other reason this shouldnt be working.

Every PS3 supports HEN, no exceptions.
However in the case of 25xx, they may or may not also support CFW, and if yours does you should consider going that way since CFW is generally considered superior. Use MinVerChk to determine the lowest supported firmware version on your console. If it says 3.56 or below, I would recommend that you install CFW for a full jailbreak. If it says 3.60 or above, come back here for HEN.

I copied the PS3UPDAT.PUP file from the link above to fat32 in the PS3/UPDATE folder.
PS3 sees the flash drive, but when I try System Update / Update via Storage Media, it doesn't show me the update at all, but tells me "No applicable update data was found". I tried with other flash drives - again the same problem. I'm asking for help.

Check that the USB device is formatted FAT2 MBR. The PS3 cannot recognize external storage devices in FAT32 GPT

Try using a different pendrive if the problem persists.

That's because the FW version is the same, it must be installed via Safe Mode.
