PS3 Hi everyone!

PS fanboy here, I picked up several broken ps3s a few weekends ago and Im going to build some working ones from the parts. I have to start here so I can message people and not only lurk...

Im starting with a boot looping 2001A with a bad voltage regulator (8002f1f9 - Wifi/BT module) Ill use the AMS1117- 1.8v and hopefully thatll fix it.

I fixed a 2501A with a power supply and hard drive, cleaned out the mountains of dust and redid the paste PTM7950. Its base FW is 3.40, so this may be a keeper.

I have a fat ps3 that I want to keep, its working fine, Im going to open it and clean it re-paste it with PTM7950, I may put a 19-blade fan on it. BUT Im debating on using the RIP Felix Tantalizer, even though the system works fine. What are eveyones thoughts?

The 2501A is really a keeper! CFW support with 40/45 nm efficiency is the best of both worlds. Only big thing missing is HW PS2 compatibility but then again SW comapatibily is still really good for most games IMO. I would keep that one unless the fat is a HW PS2 compatible and you actually plan to play PS2 games on it.

For the fat, as long as it doesn't crash on startup or when playing the games you want to play I would keep the NEC/TOKIN Proadlizers. If something isn't broken why fix it? You will be putting stress on the board for no reason. My CECHC has failing caps on the CELL but they only cause a YLOD with intense games that I don't play at all so I keep them in. The 19 blade fan doesn't make any difference IMO. I tested both the 15 and 19 blade fans and the temps and noise were the same between them. Unless you have a 19 blade already I wouldn't bother with buying one.

Thanks for the info!
The fat is backwards compatible but I dont really play any ps2 games on it. The games I wanted to play were re-released for the ps3. (Except for the socom games)

The fat has an error after I replaced the hard drive in 2008ish, every once in a while itll say failed to start operating system (or something like that) but its never really been a problem. I dumped syscon and it doesn't show those, just random crashes (last once being in 2013).

For the fan info, I did more googling and found the D14f is a better fan, but my system may have that already, same with the 226 power supply.
I havent opened up this fat system yet, Im waiting on a sheet of ptm7950 before I do. I want to clean the dust bunnies and evaluate the fan psu when Im there.

I did get another fat model, nonBC and that may need the NEC Tokens replaced. Im having fun with learning the console repair stuff! I also got a broken ps4 with the bad fat model so now I get to learn about those too...
