How can I remove PS3 HEN/HFW 4.88?

Hi,

I'm selling my PS3 and want to give the buyer a stock system. The update via storage process is blocked and when I try to download in safe mode it states that no applicable data is found.

The 4.88 file on Sony's website https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps3/system-software/
won't download so I downloaded it from another site. Maybe that's the issue.

I formatted to FAT32, created a folder titles PS3, then a subfolder UPDATE, and then copied the file PS3UPDAT.PUP into the update folder.

Any ideas or alternative methods?

installing OFW will remove HFW and HEN. it will not remove the folders, psn accounts, credit card numbers, etc. format is best after installing OFW.

I don't understand your reply. The issue is I can't install OFW. There is something blocking me through doing it on the PS3 through system update VIA internet or Storage Media. In SAFEMODE it says no applicable data found when following the steps outlined above.

Unclear, all I want to do is revert back to OFW.

sorry, i forget stuff sometimes. i meant to add check the md5 of the pup you downloaded. you must install from safe mode. hen blocks the normal way.

i have a guide here that has some troubleshooting information.

Tha'ts alright. Do you know why the PS3 4.88 download on their OWN internal site doesn't respond which is requiring me to go through 3rd parties. Not familiar with checking MD5s to compare files, researching now.

just use hashtab. it's probably the easiest way to do it as the md5 will be in properties when you right click the file. there's even a box to check it against another md5. if you copy the correct md5, you don't even have to paste it in the box as the md5 will be checked via the copy command.

the guide i linked has all the usual problem areas...MBR FAT32, folder/filenames, all that. sometimes the update will not be found unless you unplug the controller at certain point. all give problems even on official updates.
 
download ofw 4.88 from sony and copy to flash drive and install it
PS3 > UPDATE > PS3UPDAT.PUP
