PS3 How do I use the gx game configs on my semic bc ps3?

So I'm seeing on the site that there are specific configs for the gxemu for games like ratchet and clank but I don't understand how I apply them, on my slim it was pretty easy with the ps2 classics emulator but for this the configs don't seem to apply

@IsuckatHAX Which site are you referring to - I'm assuming this site? Or maybe the PS2 CONFIG Database courtesy of aldostools?

It should be the same as the software-based PS2 Classics emulator config files - but someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not sure what you did to get configs working on your slim, but the way I have done it is as follows:

Download the relevant config file for the game, so the relevant title ID and type (GX) and then rename from the title ID to what your ISO is titled (see below) and place it in the same folder as the ISO (PS2ISO). For example:

Ratchet & Clank.iso
Ratchet & Clank.iso.CONFIG

Not sure if you tried this already as you didn't provide many details, but this should apply the CONFIG provided it's the relevant title ID and type. This works for the PS2 Classics/ps2netemu CONFIG files, and so the principal should be the same. Again, I stand to be corrected as I've only ever used the software ones for my own slim console. Hope this helps.

Oh I didn't do .iso.config maybe that was my mistake, I'm on a backwards compatible ps3 , I still want to use the partial hardware emulation and not the full software (ps2 classics) , I just thought configs were only for full software emulation and I didn't understand if there are configs for partial bc

Yeah, as GX is partial hardware and partial software emulation, there are still CONFIGS to fill in the blanks so to speak. To my understanding, they are (like many PS2 Classic ones) official CONFIGS made for the game which have been extracted from the GX emulator itself.

But yes, definitely try renaming the config the same as your game ISO (so ending in .iso.CONFIG) as that is how the emulator will read it. Best of luck :)

Last I looked into this was firmware 4.88 and the config files are baked into the GXEMU. Kozarovv did some work a while back to extend the amount of space they can use inside to add more config files buyt for an advanced user for sure. You can read about this here.

https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Talk:PS2_Emulation#Extend_config_table_by_50.25_in_ps2_gxemu

Then he also released a GXEMU with one of his modded CONFIG files but was only for one game.

So I think it's a bit more involved then just the renaming but again it's been some time since 4.88 and I know @Evilnat has made some great advancements in the CFW of the PS3

So if I'm understanding correctly you mean that with recent cfws when you install them they come prepackaged with custom configs? If that's the case that's awesome

No you essentially have to build each GXEMU with the revised emulator. Kozzy managed to make more room to add more entries in hopes of building a custom one but It never came into fruition. But it can be done but isn't as easy a soft emu where you can just add this CONFIG

GX configs are automatically enabled by default when parsing the title ID of the game. You don't need to do anything special to get them to trigger with gxemu.

Custom configs will have to be manually added into the emulators internal table, but Ratchet and Clank's config is already populated in that table.

Yeah they have managed to add room for CONFIG files but the project never took off. Guess user base is just to small.

Hi,
soon it will be possible to do it in automated way, we are working on that currently.
